Have you tried a fast charger? Might be the converter in the Jag. AyePace will come and tell us precisely what is going on - best to wait for him.

 

Thanks but nearest level 3 charger is on the NJ Turnpike. If the battery is not charging then I don't want to waste electrons going there.

 

Got a 12v charger or jump pack that you can hook up to the starter battery? Do that first then connect your home charger. Successful charging means you probably found the cause. A 12v charger should have at least 10A capability.

 

Never had that problem before! Sounds like it’s the car since it happened on multiple chargers. Haven’t seen this reported before as a 12V problem but anything is possible when it comes to that.

I would try the charger that came with the car or any J1772 that you can plug into a regular outlet. Perhaps it ls relate to the charge connector or type. The lvl3 fast charger uses the other pins so that may work if the others dont

All of the J1772 and CCS Combo connectors use the same communication connections. It seems that in this case the onboard charger is failing to continue the conversation with the chargers. Also, make sure there is no accumulated dirt or other obstruction in the connector "slots" preventing the connection from being fully seated. The proximity and communication connections are sensitive to making sure there is a very good connection before beginning charging and continuing the charge. This is by design of the charging standards and not specific to Jaguar.

The extra 2 connections on the CCS Combo connector are the high voltage DC supply.

Having looked at this further, I think the car is trying to tell you that it is not getting enough power from the charger to actually charge the vehicle. Given that this occurred with multiple chargers and connectors it would seem to be a charging port or onboard charger issue and not a 12V power issue.

As before, make sure that there is nothing preventing the cable from being fully inserted to the socket. You might use a toothpick to ensure the "grooves" in the socket are free from obstructions. Try holding the cable firmly into the socket until you hear the locking solenoid operate. If the charging stops, try pushing the connector back in. Let us know if you do this and it resumes charging. This would confirm a charging port issue.

Thanks. I did try wiggling the J1772 connector at work and at home hoping it was a connector problem. No luck. I will get the shop vac out tomorrow and suck all the cobwebs out of the charging receptacle on the I-Pace. Will let you know if that does anything. As @Docrwm mentioned, it could be a problem on the I-Pace converter that changes AC into DC.

 

Here's an old thread of a car stuck in initialization. They did replace the 12V startup battery but that didn't fix the problem. The car was finally healed with replacement of the BCCM (yes, that's the Battery Charge Control Module that controls the charging and AC to DC rectification).

You can try that. It depends on the ability of the code reader.

 

I like "Slam08" idea to try a level 1 charge. Might as well try it and rule it out too. Might try locking the car overnight and try again in the morning. Strange things sometimes happen to an I-Pace overnight. If all else fails hope it is just a corrupted module and software update will reset.

 

You need to run the car down to less than 25 miles left. Stop at a Charger(at home) and try to charge. Then after finding it won't charge call Jaguar and tell them your car is broken and needs towing to your preferred dealer. When you and the car get to the dealer tell them you need a loaner until they get your car fixed.

 

If only loaners were available!

When I first got my ipace I had a similar issue with it starting to charge then stopping shortly after. Turned out that it was due to the car having a preferred charging time set and wouldnt let me charge outside of that time-frame. Once I turned it off I havent had any issues since. If thats the case for you then the insufficient power message might be the cars way of telling you that the charger speed isnt fast enough to fully charge the vehicle during the set charging window. With how often people seem to have their settings reset its worth double checking at least. That's my best guess anyways.

it is probably some sort of conflict with that particular charger, have you tried a unit at a different location?
I had issues with some evgo units that acted the same way.

 

As I mentioned in the original post, I tried at a Tesla destination charger - no luck. Plus now every time I power on the car I get the insufficient power message even though there is no charging cable connected.

 

Before this started happening, what was your range? Not just the GoM but more importantly your estimate based on actual driving?
When my traction battery was bad, L2 charging was bouncing around from not charging back to charging (though the behavior you're describing sounds a bit different).

 

Currently the GOM charges to 255mi, actual range is close to 240 if I drive around town. But if I use climate control the actual range drops to 220mi or less depending on how fast I'm driving.

 

You have not mentioned it yet, (like Photon said) but make sure you try charging with a 120V EVSE like the one that came with the car. I have had my car stop charging at a Chargepoint 65kw charger because I hit the unlock on my key. It would not start recharging on the Chargepoint. When I got home I found that it would not charge on my 240V EVSE either. I then tried my Ford 120v EVSE and it worked. I tried the 240v EVSE again and it also worked. It also now also works with the DC chargers.

 

Just tried this now. The blue charging LED comes on for about a second then turns off. It tries to start charging again after 30sec. This cycle repeats for about 3min after which the display on the car changes to initializing. Thanks for the suggestion.

 

Check what was set at Charge period in the Jaguar Remote app and set this to 00:00-23:45

You can set this also at car settings under Setting > All Settings > Vehicle Preconditioning > Prefered Charging Time and set to 00:00-23:45

 

FWIW, I had this problem a few months after taking delivery of my iPace. It was happening intermittently regardless of what charging solution I used and got worse rather quickly. The last time the car had a charging fault and wouldn't move for about an hour until something reset itself. I immediately drove it to the dealership. It took them almost 3 months to diagnose and fix. They said the charge port needed to be replaced.

 

my car is going in for this issue next week and the lead tech mentioned that the replacing the charge port is probably needed.
this only happens with L2 charging, L3 is not impacted by this problem.

 

I have had this problem twice in the last 3 months on my 2019 IPace FE. The first time it would not charge on any level of charger. The dealer required factory assistance to diagnose the problem which they eventually determined after a week was caused by a fault in the A/C compressor that was causing a high voltage leak into the low voltage circuit. They replaced the compressor which resolved the problem I was told that this involved many hours of work because they have to drop out the entire front subframe to get access to the compressor.
Second time I had the problem a couple of months later the car charged fine on a DC Fast Charger but not on a Level 1 or 2. Once again the dealer needed factory help to diagnose the problem which was determined to be caused by the Battery Charge Control Module malfunctioning. They replaced the module which fixed the problem. The dealer told me that although these two issues appeared to be similar they were totally unrelated and the compressor issue did not contribute to the BCCM issue. Hope this helps. BTW my 12 volt battery failed and was replaced about a year ago.

 

Hi Everyone, i had the "Stuck in initialising" issue, only had the car for a week (21 plate) after its first InstaVolt charge it wouldn't release the cable AFTER it had charged, then all subsequent attempts PodPoint, GeniePoint wouldnt even start the charge due to "initialising", I tried to charge today at Work as a last attempt but has no luck, I called Jaguar breakdown assistance and they sent someone within 2 hours who has given the BCCM the "4 available updates" it required, my car is currently charging and hopefully this issue wont rear its head any longer. i'll let you all know if it becomes an issue again.
