My guess is manufacturing isn't caught up yet since the bulletin was very recently released. So they likely had a choice: keep the solution quiet until they had built up a stock of parts, or let people see it and know there is a solution (and thus not trying other things to solve it), even if it isn't available yet.

That is consistent with what my service tech said. Back when the other I-Pace came in in mid-December, I think they were not aware of the bulletin so it took some time to diagnose and now that the bulletin is out, it was easier to look for the potential issue. He also said that there were different versions of the harness depending on the options in the car making it harder to get a standardized part out ASAP.

So knowing is half the battle. Hopefully the other half will not take forever.

My cat is stranded since mid-December at Décarie Motors for exactly same problem...
Intermittent power train failures upon acceleration. Had experienced the same grinding sound only once though....

The park lock activator is broken and we are still waiting for the part to come in....
MyA, have they sourced your replacement spare parts yet? Could they take these parts of a JLR stock vehicle instead, as you have waited so long?

Did you take the photo of the connector plug and broken wire yourself, is it possible for owners to view it? I would like to inspect my connector for taut wiring, rather than be stranded miles from home.

Cheers, Steve

Sounded like the cable is probably pretty deep in the car. I doubt service can cannibalize a new car for parts (sales and service are different depts) and I was told that there are different versions of the harness (presumably a bunch of cables wrapped together to get from one place to another in the bowels of the car) depending on the car's options. Would be nice but not a realistic expectation I suppose.

The pictures uploaded in a previous post was provided by my technical adviser at JLR. It is a connector with a bunch of wires that run deep within the cats belly, where you need to dismount the front subframe, and remove the electronic drive unit ground cable , etc. Not an easy job that should total a minimal close to a dozen hours......

Both us Montreal I-Paces waiting for the new cable harness got word that they should arrive Jan 27. I should swing by the dealer to see if they are sitting side by side in the parking lot...

I tell people asking where my cool EV is that the problem has nothing to do with it being an EV but everything to do with being a Jag. ;)

Yikes - two more weeks, then another day to swap out the back harness and connector. Seems odd that they couldn't pull inventory from production to solve outstanding repair needs. It doesn't seem like there are hundreds having this failure, more like dozens globally.

While I certainly would love to get it back sooner, I would not expect them to spend 20hrs to dismantle a new car to get a cable, then spend 20hrs to put a new one back once the cable arrived. I would not be happy buying a car knowing (or even suspecting) it was cannibalized and put back together. Also, the harness may have been modified to address the issue and they’d be setting themselves up for another costly repair.

One could argue that they could slow down production at the factory to send replacement parts sooner.

Well, the cable arrived early and got the car back today! Still almost a month just to replace a cable (11 hour job apparently) but at least it arrived a week early. Dealer was good and the Evoque loaner was fine.

Will test it all out on a road trip (with H264 installed!) to Boston and report back on the change in range etc...

Congratulations on getting your car back ?. Knock on wood this is the last trouble you'll experience! Enjoy the road trip. I love Boston!

Thanks. So far so good. At the first charge station. I did 180km using 63% of the battery with an average of 28kW/100km. That seems to show that the 100% range of the battery is 80kW. I did a quick calculation at the 50% mark that have me an ~81kW capacity. Seems to be a range of 280km per charge at -10c and mostly 100km/he highway driving with some climbing. All in Eco mode. GOM started out of the gate after upgrade at 400km! Wow, such optimism! Now showing 300, which is lower than the constant 325 I was getting, but closer to reality at least.

Jaguar filed information about this with the NHTSA. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10169910-0001.pdf

It looks like the allow up to 11.2 hours for the repair if the harness needs replacing.
My dealer lamented that they allow (I.e. pay) for 11 hours but it takes them closer to 20 to do it. They managed to do it in one day and an extended test drive, so maybe now that they have done two, they are getting quicker.

So far so good. Will have done a 1000km road trip with no issues other than a charging close call thank to a terrible GOM and me not paying attention to the SOC.

Hi All,

Had a funny (not in a good way) thing happen today. As I pulled into a parking space, I heard a second of rubbing/grinding-like sound. I was turning tight, so I thought the tire might be rubbing on something so I did not give it another thought (others than noted a new, strange sound).

When I left work, I started getting intermittent "Gearbox Fault Detected" messages. They were yellow, would appear for 2 seconds then disappear. Seemed to happen when accelerating from stop. The grinding sound (more like a creaking/rubbing) happened again a few times and once, the car lurched to a stop when I tried to move from a stop sign (felt I got rear-ended).

I managed to limp the car home and will call the dealer tomorrow. I've seen a few mentions of this error in other threads, but they were after other errors like traction battery fault or other error. Anyone had this specifically and had it resolved somehow (or am I about to start a long journey with JLRNA)?

So I got the Gearbox Fault Detected warning with the yellow wrench symbol last Saturday (7/31). It happened while I had been driving for a while and was actually going downhill at about 35 mph (slight amount of regenerative breaking). It was making grinding noises but was still driving OK. I pulled over and as soon as I came to a complete stop the warning message cleared. I gently pulled away; no more noises or warnings and I managed to drive home without problems. As if nothing had happened.
Of course I started Googling and found this helpful Forum thread and the JLR bulletin that shows that this is a known problem. I then realized I had also experienced the strange lurching at very low speeds a few times on earlier days but without the Gearbox Fault warning.
I drove the car to my JLR Service Center without problems today and I mentioned the bulletin. They are checking the car out now, so lets see what they come back with.

Update: they are going to do the wire harness job as instructed by the JLR bulletin. Apparently it will all be completed by Thursday. We will see.
(In the mean time I am driving a Land Rover Discovery loaner. Nice car in many ways but not nearly as nice as my I-Pace)

Fingers crossed. Arg, I had a Disco loaner for a couple of weeks. Fine car once it's moving but the throttle lag is ridiculous. And yea it's a boat.

Final update: Repairs have been done according to JLR bulletin for replacing the wiring harness and they also replaced the parking break motor, covered by warranty. Picked up the car yesterday, Monday, so the whole job took about 10 days. Car has been driving fine so far.

As of yesterday, I have 'Gearbox fault detected' too. Thanks forum buds for your helpful thread!
Nov 3 will wait 90 minutes for Cole European Svc to read the codes (2 days to have loaner car ready) to confirm. 33k miles since purchase new. Already had major surgery for BECM replacement 2 ys ago; was an inch from lemon buyback but still in lust.

Symptoms: First dash warnings 10/30 while driving, no noises. On 10/31 two more warnings on 2 mile trip, then parking brake engages in drive while traveling 2-3 mph, about to engage reverse. Afterwards goes forward and reverse at low speed a few times without incident, now parked.
Will be driving 11/2 to doc appt and 11/3 to dealer. Buying my first lottery tix if no grinding occurs, wish me luck
