1. Battery is bad and doesn't have capacity. Happens to all old 12V batteries. Not related to being in an EV or anything else.
2. They changed the wrong battery.
3. Jaguar (lack of) competence.
4. Battery was able to recharge and work temporarily. It happened to me when mine went bad. Small auxiliary battery recharged while I ate lunch in a restaurant and I was able to drive home without incident. Problem returned the next time I drove it.
5. Known issue with Jaguar servers not pushed Infotainment and TCU updates to the cars. Contact a dealer to get updates pushed if the car doesn't have Infotainment S22A and/or TCU 20.2.
6. Battery replacement: Follow instructions in https://www.i-paceforum.com/threads/2020-my-and-before-auxiliary-battery-replacement.7970/ and https://www.i-paceforum.com/threads/main-12v-battery-replacement.8102/ and you won't have problems.
6. Your own updates: see https://www.ipaceforums.co.uk/threads/stuff-the-dealer-ill-do-it-myself.8745/#post-113292

-> does this apply to pre 2021? Should 2019 receive (in any situation) SOTA?

Yes it applies to pre 2021 (VIN tenth letter M). Infotainment and TCU updates in these cars got the updates SOTA.

Hi guys,

It seems it was my time for my 12v batteries to die out.
I was away for 7 days, came back and the car is completely dead.
Its summertime here so its hot. Mine is a MY2020.

I just ordered two exide batteries. One EK151 and one EK950.
My biggest question and concern is which one you change first. And what will happen after it gets power.
Will it start trying to charge them , can something get "fried" while one is being plugged in and the other is not ?
Do I change the big 12v volt first or the auxiliary one ?
What happens if one of the batteries is changed but the other one is missing. Will the car try to charge it or do something ?
Do I need to take it to a dealer so it can clear out the errors or calibrate something after the batteries are changed ?

EK950? How does that compare to EA472 (comparable to original).

If replacing both, disconnect small, then disconnect large, replace them, connect large, the connect small per instructions posted in both threads for battery replacement. Be sure to open bonnet and wait for hazard light to be unlit before starting. Put car in service mode if applicable to your country via Remote app.

(edit: corrected battery designation)

Hi Ayepace,

Oh ... The EK950 is wrong for the "large" battery ? It won't fit , I need the EK472 ?
So in order not to cause damage or trouble I must change the EK151 first and then the large one ?

My car is currently completely dead. And because I want to change the batteries if possible on site, i am trying to do it the right way and without cause any damage while changing them.

Is there anything , like a fuse or something I must disconnect while i am doing this task ?
is there any video that shows this whole process ? I found some useful notes on howto dyi but a video just to make sure would have been very helpful.

Thank you for your time.

No video here. No fuses to pull. Just follow step by step instructions. Take your time and don't rush it.

You only need page 4 of PDF in post #1 in https://www.i-paceforum.com/threads/2020-my-and-before-auxiliary-battery-replacement.7970/

Wait to reconnect small battery earth strap to body until after large is replaced.

Thanks for the follow up, will try it out tomorrow i believe.
I have ordered both the EK151 and the startup battery to be 100% sure since I believe the car is still using the original ones.

I am only worried about the startup battery now. The MY20 needs the smaller one (exide EK472) as you mentioned and not the (exide ek950) ?

thank you for your time ayepace.

They all use EA472 sized battery for the startup battery. It doesn't have to be a EA472, just one that is physically the same size in order to fit properly. The EK950 (discontinued) and EK960 are too big.

Hello Just changed them both.

For the startup i used a flooded (like the original), silver series varta, but 52ah instead of 47 that the factory one was.

After both batteries were changed the car was supplying power to both so the issue must have been aging since they were still the factory ones from 2019 !

Thank you all for your help.

Issues with the battery might not be aging...
After I changed the batteries all was great until today.
The car was at the official stealer for ac refrigerant recharging. i took it on Friday. After what they did , they plugged it and charged it to 70% from 20. Wife picked it up today (Monday) and there was an error about brake pedal feel reduced...
She drove for about an hour. Parked the car. Restarted it , and the error was still there.

The tech on the service said that it might be not fully charged because they are relatively new. I find this explanation funny to say the least.

Combined with the fact that the car was completely dead about three weeks ago when I changed both of them with new ones, and the fact that I get the feeling its sucking up main battery way faster than usual, do you guys have any ideas on what might be wrong ?
Has anyone experienced something in the car sucking up energy from it even when its sleeping or so ?

Verify the hazard light is not background lit after 10 minutes (car off and locked) or 30 minutes (car off and unlocked). Look through a window to validate. Do not open a door because that will wake up the 12V system and light up the switch.

If the switch remains lit then you have another issue keeping the 12V system from shutting down and it will draw power from the traction battery.

Gain access to the batteries and measure the voltage direct on the terminals with the vehicle ON, then turn off and let rest for two hours and measure again.
Post the results.

I have had something similar happen. One of the 12 volt batteries in this case the larger one ( 47Ah) had a bad cell and i noticed that in the morning (no external mains charging)when I went to use the car found the battery was quite warm and also noted the Km's had dropped 5% overnight so the traction battery was continually sucking juice to faulty battery. Battery replaced and all good. I now use Matson battery monitors on the 2 12v batteries. The way I can see how they are performing is after charging/topping up traction battery watch the Matson App and see how long it takes for batteries go from charging to battery ok, when they are new this happens quickly when on way out takes maybe 1/2 hour or more. In your case it could be that your new battery is faulty, can happen.

mlperformance.co (a UK company) has the small one for $42 USD + shipping on a Black Friday sale. It is still less than $100 with shipping.
The larger one is a 99R/T4 size that can be found at many auto part stores around $210.
mlperformance.co does not ship to the USA as of October 2025.
Ebay still has a vendor in Latvia, but Trump tariffs make international shipping and import duties uncertain.
Amazon still has a Miami dealer who offers EK151 at a very high price.
