Thoughts on BMW IX as a replacement

Once I return our car, one of the of vehicles I am leaning towards is a BMW IX and was wondering if any of you own it and your thoughts about it. It seems like a very nice, well made BMW....

I'm certainly not saying to skip it. Just saying how I see it. I'd not give you a hard time if you had one. Now if you bought a Hemi V8 SRT or Hellcat, I'd be like, "Dumbass, an EV can go quicker for less cash!"

Still no Macan EV curious? I shelved my car replacement plans while I figure out if Trumps anti-science agenda will adversely hurt my medical research equipment company (many of my customers are running around with their hair on fire), but I was about to pull the trigger on a Macan 4S while my I-Pace was in for moths for a laundry list of issues. Had ~8 months of trouble-free driving so I'll wait until the next multi-10k calamity to hit.

I really like my Macan Turbo EV. After owning it for almost a year, It’s better in every aspect (comfort, handling, power, etc.) except for exterior styling and lines, than my 2019 I-Pace.

I was wondering about an iX when I replace my i-pace. One of the things that really puts me off is that although it's a massive car, it has no 'frunk' to put all your cables and shit in.
For that same reason, I also crossed the Merc EQC off my shortlist when I ended up buying the Jag.
It's annoying and lazy design...we were all told that an EV drivetrain frees up a lot of space and gives designers more flexibility compared to an ICE drivetrain.....but you open the bonnet on many EVs and it's still full of pipes and pumps and tech shit like any old car!
Still, we were also told there's nothing to go wrong on an EV and they never need servicing!!!!

I essentially never used the frunk of my Model Y or Ipace. Too small for storing much. If I had something small, I'd put it on the passenger or back seat. Big? Trunk. Chargers? Sitting in a box in the garage. I had one wall-mounted on 120v for a bit, but I never used it as I have 2 L2 chargers, so I took it down. The old L2 chargers work great.

I have one. A few thoughts (in no particular order):

- The iX handles well for a vehicle of that size. That said, while it's not much larger than the I-Pace in terms of dimensions, I do notice the extra heft when driving. It doesn't bother me, but it definitely feels like a larger vehicle.

- Because it's larger, that means more room in the back seat and and in the trunk. You could fit three adults in the back and I think they'd be relatively comfortable. I suppose you could do that in the I-Pace, but they'd (obviously) be less comfortable.

- The iX has more range (bigger battery) and charges faster. I don't do a lot of road trips but when I do, it's nice knowing that I don't have to spend as much time waiting between charges.

- The iX supports digital car keys, which means you can use your iPhone and Apple Watch as a car key (not sure about Android). Some don't care for this, but I like it because it means I don't have to carry a physical key.

- On the note of keys, I like the that the iX automatically locks when you walk away from it.

- The BMW app is better than Jaguar Remote. For one, it actually works reliably. No weird outages or anything like that. Two, it's prettier and does everything Jag's app does and then some. You can roll up the windows, adjust the charge limit (and that actually works), and a few other things that I can't remember off the top of my head.

- The infotainment is better than the I-Pace and (again) it's not even close. I really like the larger screen and like that it's up higher on the dash. I realize this is subjective, but one thing about the I-Pace I never liked is having to take my eyes off the road to look at the center screen. Also, I've always found the I-Pace's screen to be laggy, which is a problem the iX doesn't have.

CarPlay looks great on the larger display and is smooth as butter. The built in navigation is decent too and I appreciate that you can filter out charging stations that aren't publicly available. IIRC, the Jag just shows you every charging station in the area and I always had to cross check that with PlugShare to make sure it's not trying to take me to a private charging station.

The difference between the infotainment options is especially jarring when you consider that both vehicles were produced during the same time period. Like, the tech in a 2022-2024 iX is far superior and looks easily more modern to that of a 2022-2024 I-Pace.

- Both cars have HUDs, but the iX also has augmented reality, which overlays virtual arrows on the route. Very nice.

- The BW sound system in the iX is better than the Meridian system in the Jag, which is no slouch. The iX has more speakers, the audio sounds cleaner to me, and boy does it get loud. Like, it can get painfully loud if you turn it all the way up. I can't speak to how the Harman Kardon in the iX sounds, and please note that I am not an audiophile, so listen to both if you can.

- No frunk on the iX, but that doesn't bother me. I've owned several EVs now and I've popped the frunk like a combined six times over the years. Usually, just to show the EV curious what it looks like.

- Another small thing, but I like that the iX turns off when you shift into park then exit the vehicle. Strangely, it does not turn on upon entering the vehicle (like Tesla).

That's off the top of my head, but if you have any questions just let me know and I'll try my best to answer.

Thanks.

Thank you for your very comprehensive comparison. I did notice that the HUD and audio are much better in IX.
How do you like the doors and the foot pedals? Doors felt light and cheap as compared to a typical BMW. Go pedal felt small and in an awkward angle - may be the way I had my driver's seat made me feel that way.
Do you like the one pedal driving?
I read somewhere that the new glass knobs can reflect sunlight and can be annoying or is it too much of a knit picking?
Thank you

I recently had the old model M60 for two days. The seats are a disaster if you are my size ( 2m tall, 105Kg ). The seats remind me of the Citroën Cactus. After that misery I managed to get the new xDrive 45 for a weekend. The seats are slightly better, but still off-the-scale below parr of eg the X5. Sales reps couldn't understand themselves why BMW used these 'ottoman'.

For the rest, as far as driving dynamics concerns, they are absolutely perfect. Rock steady cruising at 130kmph, no sweat. Braking and acceleration really perfectly controlled, cornering is very steady.

The boot is a bit limited, seems smaller then the I-Pace.

So I'm now waiting for the iX3. This will be a lower level model, but all high tech from 800V/250kW to V2H charging. Really worth the wait I think (hope..).

A -very- annoying fact al all BMW EV's is the fact that they hide Tesla Fastchargers in their navigation. Only the 'charging partners' are available. This is an despicable attitude as
when you're almost out of power, you could get stranded while you could have been able to reacht a Tesla fast charger, had it been on the map. A asked BMW. They replied '..you can always use a third party app..'. Sure I can. But then I don't need a 14" navigation screen in the car; just let me navigate with my phone and drop the price of the car with 30k !

The M60 is really impressive in the dark blue color..

.. but the new color 'artic blue' is less agressive.
