Some of you may be lucky already receiving software update over the air, others still waiting for it... So a bit of explanation below, how it works, and what needs to be done.

There are two ways, how your vehicle may get sent software update over the air for your Touch Pro system.

1. Dealer may initiate sending software to your vehicle
2. Jaguar will send new software as a periodic update to your vehicle (like Apple does with iPhones, Samsung with Android phones, or even your smart-TV producer)

According to Jaguar comms, there have been already successfully completed trials of this way of updating Touch Pro system. Following this, selected JLR (so also for Land Rovers and Range Rovers) customers in UK (as a first territory) received at the beginning of April, that software update for Touch Pro (and Touch Pro Duo) will be send soon to their vehicles. Some of them already received them.

Moreover, from the beginning or April, dealers can send the software update over the air. So rather than connecting dealer's laptop to your vehicle, they can trigger it from their TOPIX web-portal.

So some details, how it can be done. Below processes are only for the vehicles which are capable of getting software over the air, so basically those which got Connectivity Packet fitted, SIM card with available data package inserted (or vehicle connected to external WiFi hotspot), and vehicle is in the range of internet connectivity.

Dealer triggered software update over the air

  1. your vehicle would need to be added by JLR (either by global team, or by dealer) to the pool of vehicles eligible to get SOTA updates. Dealer can do it via TOPIX web-portal, after entering you VIN, clicking on SOTA toggle button:
    Image

  2. you need to:
    - make sure you have internet connectivity in your vehicle (SIM card inserted with available data package, Mobile connectivity enabled)
    - Software updates enabled in your vehicle (Settings->All settings>Software update > turned on / Enabled), you need to accept T&Cs.
    Image

    - then you need to press Check for update to initiate first hand-shake with JLR server. If you would forget to do so, vehicle does hand-shakes every 24h to check new SW availability. After first hand-shake, it is quite rare that new SW is available - look at the next points.
  3. If there is new SW available for you, dealer will see it in the TOPIX. And if there is, he sent it to your vehicle by pressing 'Update'
    Image

  4. Now you can Check for Update again in your vehicle. The popup should appear saying, that new software is available for installation. You choose to install.

JLR triggered Touch PRO software update over-the-air

As I mentioned above, JLR will periodically send to eligible vehicles new Touch Pro software over the air.
Process is similar as above:
  • JLR will add your vehicle (if not already done before) to the pool of vehicles eligible to get SOTA updates.
  • You would need to have enabled Software Updates
  • Your vehicle is checking every 24h for new software (only if it is powered up; it it is locked, it wont check)
  • You will get popup notification once new SW is available for your vehicle and you need to choose install

Touch Pro software download and installation process
Download and installation of Touch Pro happens in the background and can be over multiple drives. You do not need to care about it. Once 'Install button' was hit, vehicle will do everything for you seamlessly. It can pause process once you lock vehicle, and resumes at the next start of the vehicle. Download and installation is paused once vehicle is locked - that is to protect from getting flatten your 12V battery (YES - you have got one in your I-Pace).

You can check status of the download or install in the software update page. There is no progress bar unfortunately...

Once installation is finished in one drive, at the subsequent drive new software are getting 'activated' to finish the whole process. You can see it as a status in software update page saying 'software installation will continue after vehicle shutdown'. In fact you need to shut down and lock vehicle for 5 minutes, to trigger full re-boot of the Touch Pro.

At the next unlock, Touch Pro boots up from the new software, and software activation process starts. As part of the activation, Live app is downloaded and re-installed. You can spot it, as instead of side panel (the one with Weather, News, mini media player, etc), you have got Jaguar logo. Live app download and install duration depends on your mobile network connectivity. Progress of download and installation of Live you can see if you will enter into Live (from Extra features page, on the right from the HOME page) - you have got a progress bar there
Once Live is installed, you will get banner shown "Live apps updated"

In the meantime you can see also the banner, that New Software was installed successfully. From that moment, new software version is also visible in the Software Update page.

FAQ
  • Q: Will maps get updated as part of the update? A: No. You need to follow the process of downloading the map to the USB stick (min 32GB) from the web-site www.jaguar.here.com
  • Q: Can I skip or defer for later the software update? A: Yes, if you will select 'remind me later', new popup reminder will appear no earlier than after 6 hours. If you will skip it, no popups will be shown, but you can manually Check for update.

19A has some bugs in it. Specifically, if you have the MyEV panel displayed in your customized screen, it will appear blank. You have to log out of profile and log back in to get the MyEV panel populated. Also, the language defaults to American Female voice at each start-up, even though the selected language for the system is different. Checking the updated software version for Telematics and Battery goes in an endless loop, a la "beachball."

I got mi i-Pace a week ago and was too busy to sit in the car and look at the system. Before pickup, I conformed that they were prepping the car and would make sure the Touch Pro software was up tp date. I just checked and I am at version S18D_18.47.5-269316. How old is this? They also said that SOA was enabled in Canada (they were not aware that it was not operation in the US, so they may be confused). I clicked on the "Check For Updates" button and it said there were no new updates.

Should I go and chew out my dealer? Was the regen recall for this version?

Having same issues with myev. Sometimes myev works, next drive it might not. Also some call shortcut Icons go blank and sometimes next drive they are there.

I noticed my estimated driving range increased noticeably. I don't know if there were system optimizations or there was a previous calculation error and range was under reported. Anyone else experience this?

I’m still experiencing some odd infotainment issues, especially lagginess at startup, but the touch screens are definitely more responsive. The lower screen has a momentary ‘ghost’ image when transitioning screens. The lag in the rear camera is almost completely gone too.

My fuel efficiency has also improved, but I am attributing that to the defective AC system that was replaced. Apparently the compressor was engaged 100% of the time, creating drag on the system.

I have the same issue but with phone contacts. I have a custom home screen and it is pretty hit or miss on loading the names of my 1 touch contacts. I have to go to my profile log out and log in by pushing my profile name while stopped - even the fact you can only do this while stopped is absurd...

So I got the Regen + Gateway modules updated yesterday, and the dealer updated the infotainment system SW to 19A as well even though I didn't ask for it. I can confirm that the My EV panel is blank now and since yesterday is not showing the Regen/Creep/Low Power mode icons. Thankfully the creep mode has remained in OFF and has not reverted to ON after restarting the car like some people are reporting. I will call the dealer and complain so that hopefully the feedback can trickle back to JLR.

Dantrium, are you also seeing the blank My EV panel after your update?

#52 ·
Thanks, Dantrium. I meant the My EV panel on the home screen. But luckily it reverted back to showing it this morning so maybe it's an intermittent issue. Ugh.

Just got my I-Pace back from getting the recall done. I asked them to also try to fix the EV Panel disappearing and check for any updates and apply them, and open a TA ticket with JLR if they can't fix the EV Panel cuz I'm so tired of having that issue. I was already on 19A when I dropped off the car but they said there were 2 brand new software updates that just came out so they applied those and resolved the EV Panel issue with an update. I've only had the car 2 days but so far the EV Panel is loading every time so fingers crossed! I'll report back next week with another update.

After getting the Brake Regen Recall s/w update (and other s/w updates at the same time???), I've noticed better battery efficiency and higher max range. Been driving it for 2 weeks now after the updates and getting ~ 240-270mi. City driving and today, I did 156 mi. all Hwy miles and came back with 25% battery left (showed 65 miles left range). BUT this is on a trip driving 65-78 mph where I used to get 190-200 mi. max range for this kind of hwy driving. I averaged 40.8 KWpH (and used to average > 42-44 KWpH for similar hwy driving trips). So, am I really now getting 220mi.+ for all Hwy driving too? If so, that would be phenomenal! :D

After my 156mi. hwy trip to Miami & back home, my I-Pace charged up at home for > 9 hrs. Woke up this morning and checked my InControl app, and it's showing "Fully Charged with 247mi. Range." :wink2: Wow, in many previous trips like that, it would've charged 100% and shown approx 200-210 mi. max range after a hwy trip like that. There must have been a s/w update which somehow improved max battery range (although wondering if it did so by sacrificing performance?). Just saying.

I had the H193 (gateway module reprogram) and H213 (brake regen recall) updates done last Friday. Service manager said it would take 1.5 hours and sure enough, they were done in that time, including doing the courtesy checks and air in the tires.

After the reprogram, my range showed an increase like the others. After two days of normal driving and charging overnight, it is still showing increased range, first day it was 255miles range, today was 245. It is showing that the consumption is similar for the same routes driving previously, so I think it may be the guess o meter is updated to reflect different profiles for the range.

Last week I had the brake regeneration update and total miles shot up to 278. Today I had the infotainment update and it’s back down to 190 lol. When I picked up the car the AC was blasting so it’s possible someone sat in it with AC on High for a few hours while updating and throwing my mileage curve way off. It felt good to have all those extra miles even if only for a few days. Service advisor said they will only update if you specify a problem. All in all I got 3 updates not 30. So hopefully everything is in order. Will see if interface is any less laggy.

This came across Topix tonight.:

H228NAS1 - Service Action: Software Enhancement Programme

North America Market

(It didn’t list specific vin#’s)

SITUATION:

In an effort to make sure customers receive the highest possible vehicle quality, a limited number of Jaguar I-PACE vehicles within the listed Affected Vehicle Range are eligible for a number of software updates to bring each module up to the latest level.

ACTION:

Retailers are required to HOLD affected new vehicles that are within your control and refrain from releasing the vehicles for new vehicle sale pending completion of the procedure(s) detailed in this Technical Bulletin. Unsold vehicles should have this performed as part of the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) process but must have it completed prior to vehicle handover to the customer.

Affected vehicles already in the hands of customers should be updated at the next available opportunity. Maybe prepping for SOTA?

Based on feedback I've posted in Advisory board someone from corp JLR USA called me today. They told me that SOTA was supposed to be rolled out in June, but the rollout was delayed to July because of some updates and fixes they were doing to the system. They said "for sure" it was being delivered to all cars via over the air updated within two weeks. I asked specifically if I'd have to take my car for service in order to get SOTA and was told no. I also asked why it is when I go to service I'm told there's no updates for my car, when I know there is. She said they had a problem were updates were not being passed on to all dealers and they were working on fixing the problem. I told her how the GM at the dealer I go to said they don't just do updates because it introduces others bugs and she said they were not following protocol. All dealers were told to install updates when customers request or when a vehicle is in service for other reasons. They want all cars to be on the latest software versions. I told her that they needed to work on communication because what they are expecting is not happening. She confirmed there is monthly, and sometimes more frequently, emails sent to all dealers about updates so they can keep their customers informed. She also said they were working on something new to get better communication to customers about software releases, like release notes, so that we are informed what's coming and what was updated when an update applies.

I don't know, I'm taking it with grain of salt.

#82 ·
Are you still going to Livermore JLR?

I think overall that's good news ... they called you and verified that we should get SOTA soon. I'd be shocked if they do a reversal on that. Yes it's taking longer than it should have but on the other hand that's also not unexpected.

To clarify some of the discussions in this thread.

WHICH MODULES WILL GET SOFTWARE OVER THE AIR and WHEN?

First module is infotainment system. Roll out of the latest 19A (S19A_19.24.2-375121) is planned to wramp up from the last week of July. Not all vehicles will get it at the same time - it will be pushed in batches. Please make sure you have Software Updates enabled, and internet connectivity is up and running. You will get it.

Next module which will get SW over the air updates is Telematics. There are pilot activities happening now in non-US territories, roll-out to all vehicles is expected before the end of 2019 CY.

Next modules after Telematics are Battery Management, and Charger. I would not expect them to arrive to regular I-Paces before Jan 2020, possibly even more into spring.

So any manual 'Check for updates' for Vehicle Software section in the software updates, will result either in the endless 'beach ball' or with banner 'No updates available'.

However if you are experiencing connectivity issues (mobile network or WiFi) and you are on Telematics 14.2 software, please visit your dealer and get 16.2 which was released recently. Please note, that Bluetooth connection issues are covered via Infotainment updates, not Telematics updates.

Software version numbers

Each module has got its own numbering. It would be good to make it unified by JLR, but well, maybe in future. So far:

For infotainment, example S19A_19.24.2-375121:
S19A - Stable 19A branch of the software - it may have more than one releases with some further fixes
19 - year of the release
24 - week number of the year
2 - day of the week (1-> Mon, 2-> Tue, etc).
375121 - unique ID of the software build

For Telematics, it is just increasing numbers - 12.2, 13.2, 14.2, 16.2. As spotted elsewhere, 15.2 was skipped. So in future I would expect 17.2, 18.2 and etc to arrive.

RANGE, RANGE, RANGE => changes, changes, changes

Well, topic is bit complex. The module responsible for calculating the range is using the multiple inputs. If you are stationary in the vehicle, using AC, listening to Radio, watching movies from the USB stick, then you are consuming your battery. It will affect calculation of the range in future. However it wont affect your average kWph consumption, as this one is calculated when vehicle is in move. That would explain, why some of you experience changes between city and hwy. In the city, when stopped on the red light, vehicle uses power stationary, but it wont affect your kWph. When on motorway, you are in move. So even you may get equal kWph, but predicted range in those two scenarios will be calculated in a different way.

Moreover, after some modules updates in the dealer, the learnt 'curve' of the energy usage is being reset, so that is why you may see that spike in range after some updates in the dealer.

I just got this email as well. But there's no turning on/off software updates in my vehicle. It's says software updates on but the button is greyed out so I can't tell what's going on (see attached pic). The "Lock software updates" appears to be selected and I can't change that either so I dunno what this means... If I'll get updates or not. The version I'm on now is whatever the latest available was with H228 that they just installed (after 2 weeks of it failing repeatedly and them replacing a bunch of components)

after the stunts Telsa has pulled with reducing their cars range because they pushed the batteries too far and they started exploding, I'm actually OK if they never enabled the BMS module update via OTA.

#90 ·
I followed the link provided by billfan to the FAQ section. The Jaguar website states that anyone running software version 18b and above will be able to use SOTA. Good news for those running older software? If it ain't broke....

#91 ·
I got a second email today. Now saying first software update coming in the next few weeks.

In the next few weeks we’ll be launching our first wireless software update* for your car. Software updates provide a way of updating core software on your car at your convenience in order to maintain and improve its capabilities without the need to visit a retailer.

Initial software updates cover minor bug fixes in the infotainment system to improve performance and functionality. Further releases will include updates to your Jaguar vehicle's connectivity as well as the telematics system. When an update becomes available, you will receive a pop-up notification on the infotainment screen. You can also check for updates through the Settings Menu.
EASY TO ACTIVATE
To receive software updates, you will need this feature switched on in your car. This can be done through the Settings Menu > Software Updates > On/Off. You'll also need to accept the terms and conditions.

It is also important that you have an active InControl account, which entitles you to complimentary software updates, along with a suite of various remote, security and convenience features. If you do not have an active account, please register using the following link:
https://incontrol.jaguar.com/jaguar-portal-owner-web/login
HOW TO INSTALL
HOW TO INSTALL
Depending on your connectivity, there are two ways your car can receive the update:
1. THROUGH WI-FI CONNECTIVITY
If your car is already connected to Wi-Fi, it will use your connection to download the software update prior to installation.
2. THROUGH YOUR PERSONAL SIM CONNECTIVITY
If your car is not connected to Wi-Fi, it will download the software through your personal SIM.
When the ‘Software Update’ notification appears on your screen, you have three options:
1. Install now – this will start the download in the background, followed by the installation. You can continue your journey uninterrupted.
2. Remind me later – the notification will pop up again after six hours.
3. Skip update – this will remove the notification completely. If you later decide you’d like to install the update, you will need to do this via the Settings Menu.
Once the update has installed, you will receive a notification at the top of your screen. Likewise, you will be notified if the download has failed.

I'm not terribly eager for a software update, as I don't have any particular issues at the moment - i.e, "it ain't broke...". However, having received that e-mail referenced above, I went to have a look at the software update menu in my car, and the 'power button' on/off icon is 'greyed out' - I couldn't toggle it on even if I wanted to. Is this normal? Does this mean that I need a 'dealer-performed' update before i'd be able to update OTA?
