As of today, JLR published several new documents regarding the battery recall in Topix. They updated the original bulletin (attached), and also provided dealer service instructions for updating the BECM software. The customer letter and a Questions & Answers document were also published, and all are attached here. According to the QA doc, the new version of the software is now available. I also noted that the H441 service campaign is now showing for my vehicle, whereas it wasn't previously.

I have my car booked to go into the dealer on Friday, and will report back on the new version. I'm already running the very latest BECM software, so it will be interesting to see how many modules get updated.

I have a 2019 First Edition. Does that software vary by model year? I called Jaguar San Francisco late last week and he said they had a ton of questions about it and his contact at JLR corporate said it wouldn't be released until July 21--he had spoken to him about an hour before that.

Also found out that Waymo has around 200-250 I-Pace's in SF but JLR cut a deal with them to certify their own techs to do warranty work. and then waymo promptly went and hired every tech from the JLR Marin location to work for them. lol

The software is released; tell your dealer to check Topix. Everything was published in there on Monday, including instructions for performing the update. The QA doc I shared explicitly states that the software is now available, and we've seen at least one member get the update at the dealer already.

So I'm really curious, I own a 2019 iPace and the only way I found out about this "recall" was my husband actually found some stuff in the news/online about iPace batteries catching fire...he called the dealership, 2 of them, left messages. None of them responded back. I still haven't heard about it over my dealer nor received any note. I'm not happy with our service in general, they really tried to screw us over a few times and if me and my husband wouldn't be so careful we would have fallen for several things. Any clue if there is an official recall letter coming or not?

I Got Lucky! Our '19 HSE was in the dealership for our Scheduled Service. Picked it up yesterday and got home and saw the various information re the Battery Fire Hazzard Update. Emailed my Service Advisor asking if he had done this H441 Battery Recall and forwarded the various info that was shown on the I-Pace Forum. Received a speedy response from him advising that he HAD performed a Battery Update that was shown as due, but he had no idea it was THIS update. He went on to confirm the update he had performed was, in fact, H441. Yikes! How lucky can one get?!?! My THANK YOU to all who contributed to my learning I got this update! Our "Forum" is certainly a worthwhile source for valuable information! Josephus

We got our H441 software update (2019 HSE). My wife parked the car back in the garage again and we decided to charge it. It stopped at 75%. We had summer road trip plans (from Alberta to BC). 75% range is going to severely cramp our ability to do this. Will evaluate whether we keep this although who would buy a large expensive car with 300 km range.

have you talked to the dealer about getting it fixed before your road trip? The 75% limit is supposed to be only temporary until the dealership replaces the bad modules in the battery

and the 75% limit will only really affect your first leg of the trip. Don’t get me wrong, I know every mile counts, but generally you won’t DC fast charge beyond 75% anyway because charging slows down so much. So the real impact is from your house to the first fast charger, then it basically evens out.

also - it’s a good thing you got the update, trying to get mine asap. As much as 75% range sucks, it’s way better than your house burning down ;)

Supposed to be. If the software limits to 75%, it is because there is a real problem, and I am guessing that a new message in the dash will tell you to contact the dealer. I don't think the software will only send back battery data to JLR over the air without driver's notification.

on the one hand, yes you do and that’s a bummer. On the other hand, you’re going to get at least a portion of your now-5-year-old battery replaced with brand new modules for free, thereby extending the life (and likely the range in the short term) of your car at no cost, so there’s an upside too. Just hope you can get it replaced before your road trip - if so then I’d view this whole thing as a win tbh.

I charged the traction battery today from 20%- 80% - no issues, keeping the car in the garage tonight.

One other thought - Jaguar had recommended that we park our cars outside until this was resolved.
i am not sure, but I think a natural gas line runs across my front yard under the driveway. Let’s see how this might work. I park my car outside above a natural gas line. The car starts on fire- which apparently the local fire company cannot extinguish -they just watch it burn itself out. Now what happens to the natural gas line underneath????

Of course I am being a bit snarky, but you get the drift I am sure. My Jaguar dealership has been less than excited about the issue, probably due to the fact that I understand they have agreed to give up the Jaguar franchise in the near future and only continue with Land Rover. This is my fourth Jaguar- I love the brand, and currently own a XF as well as an IPace. Clearly Jaguar has done nothing to help the bottom line of JLR in recent years, and dealers are being asked to ditch the brand- which leaves us between a rock and a hard place.

Interestingly, a slightly revised version of the bulletin was posted on June 22nd. Attached here, the only change is this part:

In line with recommendations made by manufacturers who have had similar issues and until such time as the safety recall remedy has been completed, retailers and customers should park away from structures for 30 days after the update. Where possible, vehicles should be charged outside.

They also released a new technical bulletin today related to the recall and new software: I-PACE Traction Battery Fault Detected warning message with P1B48-00 stored

Issue:
Amber warning message Traction Battery Fault Detected with DTC P1B48-00 Hybrid/EV Battery Voltage Deviation stored in the BECM. HV battery is unable to charge over 75% when this warning message and fault is stored.

Cause:
One or more internal cell faults have been identified in the HV battery pack

Action:
Do not perform any additional vehicle diagnostics. Raise a TA for for this concern.
