Just had this Gearbox Fault detected error happen to me yesterday. MY19 stopped accelerating in the middle of backing out of a parking space then I couldn’t put it into drive to get out of the way. Got it into neutral and had to push it back into the parking space. Car was towed to the dealership today. Received a text that it’ll cost me $5400 +tax to complete a Parking Pawl harness replacement. I so wish this was a recall…

@kittykat Go to the NHTSA website and file a complaint since a car stopping in traffic is a safety hazard. Contact Jaguar Customer Care. Ask them why it was a recall in other countries but not the US and why should you bear the cost of a manufacturing defect.

That’s a great recommendation. I did already submit a complaint to NHTSA after I received the invoice from JLR. I’ll reach out to Jaguar and report back with an update.

Update for my $5400+ repair quote for the Gearbox Fault detected (parking pawl harness replacement): Jaguar customer care has opened a Good Will case for me and will be contacting my dealer to determine if all required maintenance/services has been completed and will determine if they can cover a percentage of the cost. JLR is putting me in a loaner, though, only for the next five days. They stated that they’ve had two loaner accidents and only have two available. MY19 will be with them for three weeks (one for the case review, one for the part to come in and one for the actual repair) so if they can’t get me back in the loaner after next week, I’ll likely have to get a rental car and try to get a partial reimbursement from Jaguar. Not ideal, but I’m hopeful that Jag will cover at least 25% of the cost. Will update after my case is reviewed.

Do you know if there is a way to determine which countries are considering this as a recall (JLR covers cost outside of warranty)? I have symptoms of H288 and in Sweden. Am booked into the dealer next week.

@Jagger Technically, H288 was never an official recall in the UK per https://www.check-vehicle-recalls.service.gov.uk Dealers and JLR appear to have treated it like one, though.

Find the equivalent site for your country and see what is treated as a recall there. Call JLR Customer Care for your country and ask about coverage.

Adding for future reference. In Sweden, this is not considered as a recall. Have a quote for ~6700 USD to fix. I have two extended warranties and neither of them will cover this as this is considered as a cable, and cables generally don't seem to be covered under motor insurance/extended guarantees in Sweden. I am now trying to open a Good Will case with JLR. Seeing that neighbouring Norway treated this as a recall and there is a good will case above in a country which didn't see it as a recall, I may have some luck.

So if you're in Sweden, make sure that H288 has been carried out, even if you take out an extended warranty!

I have had the issue for 1 month for now and I had to manually flip the parking brake lever off to be able to drive. Also I can only select D or R when door open..

It will go in for repairs to my trusted indie, he will just make a new connector and extend the wires..

It would be great if your indie could provide any info or pictures on how he repairs it, then I could maybe convince a workshop on this side of the world to do the same.

I dropped the car today and got a msg 1.5h later that he had almost cleared the way to repair the wires...

So even if it takes 1h more to clear way, 1h to repair and 2h to put back together it makes 5.5h -6h job. 500€..

Yes, he cleared the way onto the connector. 2 of the wires were hanging by a thread and snapped when he took the connector and loom out. He replaced 2 of the wires/pins and rerouted the whole package. It is too tightly put there.

All problems went away. Under 500€ total repair cost. Includes replacement of coolants etc.

When out of warranty its insane to pay for manufacturers repairs ... they quoted 3-5k€ to fix it. No way..
