Congratulations ! At least you managed to source the correct bike carrier. I waited for two months for my carrier to be sent over from Jaguar UK, only to unpack it and discovery that I had been sent a tow hitch mounted carrier. I have now given up on the idea and come to the conclusion that The I-Pace is an excellent and very proficient EV but it should not be categorised as an SUV. To call a vehicle an SUV when it has no capacity to tow is a total misnomer. My wife and I have cancelled our plans to purchase a second I-Pace for our home in The United Kingdom, favouring waiting for a practical alternative from a different manufacturer. I hope that your bike carrier works our for you. My best regards, James.
This just happened to me -- got the UK version.

Whelp, it looks as though US peeps can't get a bike carrier. I also ordered one from the UK, based on advice in this thread, and got the version that mounts to an EU type tow ball.

I see a few people in the US got the correct version that attaches to the tow bolts. Consider yourselves lucky.

I love my car but am highly annoyed that people in the EU get a tow option and those of us in North America get the middle finger. I don't need to tow an Airstream trailer -- I just want an effing bike carrier and to occasionally tow a small trailer across town.

After several months, I finally received my rack. It took Logan (great guy--very helpful) at Harper Jaguar quite a while to find one and then UPS took its sweet time shipping it to me. Mounting it took at least 2 hours because I spent quite a bit of time removing the lighting assembly. Screwing the bolts into the tow bar receptacles was difficult because lining them up correctly was not easy. Perhaps there is a trick. Perhaps because the left side has some intentional play, I should have bolted the right side first. Three different sets of keys is absurd. The good news: it is a very solid rack. Better than our no longer usable hitch mounted Yakima. It easily carried my 50 pound full suspension mountain ebike.

I'm jealous! I want the details. My experience was so very different. DO you think your guy could find one for me?

Does anyone have installed the bike carrier harness himself (T4K1472). Following the instruction here, they explain pretty much everything, step by step, expect how to remove the rear bumper. They just refer to another document 501-19 from the official Workshop Manual, that I don't have. Any clue ? I am stuck at that step.

I finally found the Workshop Manual 501-19 on Topix, but I had to pay a subscription for 24h to have full access to all documents. Very instructive....

I removed the rear bumper cover to install a trailer hitch. I did it by taking my time and researching with flashlights and mirrors. I wouldn't want to do it on an old car since the rear bumper plasic hooks have to stretch to come off over the tabs on the side. They have got to be near the breaking point when they come loose.

Does anyone have feedback on the quality, capacity and durability of the Rear Mounted Cycle Carrier? Specifically...
  • Are the tire channels fat enough for MTB with 3" tires?
  • Is the rack set far enough back to ensure MTB longhorn bars won't hit the rear window?
  • Is it beefy enough to support 2 MTBs?

I pick my my new First Edition in a few days and hesitate to buy the rack as it looks flimsy, with load capacities to light for my Specialized Turbo Levo electric mountain bike
(Maximum load capacity 30kg (maximum weight per individual bike 20kg).

I'd consider just putting a standard rack on a tow hitch, but alas no tow hitch on American models... any after-market adapters out yet?

Rack details here:

Thanks! -T

Bummer - I just got the email below from our Reno JLR parts guy... I'm still inclined to buy the rack as I mountain bike a lot, but I really want to see one before I drop $1k. If anyone has purchased a rack I'd really appreciate a discussion! -Tom

Tom,
So I spoke with both our Factory Jaguar parts line & Jaguar technical help line. Neither department could recommend using that size bike on this carrier. Based on the video, I don’t think it will fit properly either.
They had no further technical information at this time.

Subject: Rear Mounted Cycle Carrier Questions

Hi XXXX - I'd really like to have a platform bicycle rack for my I-Pace, but am not confident that the Rear Mounted Cycle Carrier (Reference # T4K1178) presented on the Jaguar website ( https://gear.jaguar.com/us/en/i-pac...rear-mounted-cycle-carrier-lhd/#tertiary-tabs ) will accommodate my two mountain bikes. Could you please consult with your factory reps and answer these questions:

  • About how long does it take for one person to install and remove the rack?
  • Are the tire channels fat enough for Mountain Bike with 3" tires?
  • Is the rack set far enough back to ensure MTB longhorn bars won't hit the rear window?
  • Can you provide any photos of the rack loaded with two typical mountain bikes?
  • I'm not concerned about the racks brakelights functioning, and it seems like a hassle to hook up wiring every time I install and remove the rack. May I purchase the rack only , or must I also purchase the Rear Mounted Cycle Carrier - Preparation Kit (Reference #: T4K1472) as indicated here:https://gear.jaguar.com/us/en/i-pac...-cycle-carrier-preparation-kit/#tertiary-tabs

Finally, in Europe the I-Pace has an option for a tow ball (Part Number: T4K8031 - link here: https://gear.jaguar.com/gb/en/i-pac...ing/t4k8031-towing-system-detachable-tow-bar/) ... but this feature is not available in the US. If I wanted to retrofit a tow-hitch receiver to the I-Pace, could I weld a tow hitch to the frame? Do you expect the I-Pace might be able to support aftermarket hitches (for bike rack only - not for towing)? Where would the weld points be?

Thanks -(me)
I'm late to the game here but looking for most effective way to get bikes on a leased iPace. Did you find a way to order this rack directly?

Yes - I'm interested. Why are you parting with it?

I tried to order the rear mount bike carrier and have been told that Jaguar is telling all US dealers to return the parts to the UK. I think the wiring harness is not compatible with the US market (many people have said that they don't use it or work around the installation issues) and the bike carrier is not US DOT approved. The only way to get one now is finding a dealer to ship to you directly and not DTD.

Has anyone had any issues at all using it? It is strong enough to carry one mountain e-bike right?

Do we know what the non conformity is ?
I am using one as an import from UK, here in Quebec. Only the color of the bulb seems "strange" to me.

If I wanted to to carry one bike on the back of my I-pace I would do the following: Order some nuts, a 3’ length of 4130 steel round tube 1 1/4” OD with 0.188” wall thickness and 1 meter of threaded rod. I would cut the tube and rod in half and bolt them to the two tow locations. I would then mount a clamp on bike carrier designed for a roof rack on the two tubes I mounted.

You will need threaded rod such as https://www.ametric.com/product/36289/lm20x25.
I don't know if it is strong enough. This one would most likely corrode easily.

You will have to source the nuts for left hand thread too such as NL20 - Left Hand Nut [NL20] - $3.87 : Bel-Metric, Metric Hardware, Metric Fasteners, Metric Bolts, Metric Nuts & Time-Sert Thread Repair.

Also interested here! That also goes for anyone on that may have one they'd like to sell. New to forum and will likely create separate post re this. Cheers

OK I bit the bullet, bought the cycle carrier and installed it ... And I am happy!

It handles my 2 MTB’s - including my 42lb E-Bike- pretty well. comes with a cool & useful torque wrench, pictured.

I stripped off the rediculous taillights & license plate holder... and don’t buy the “required” connector kit.

Hardest part about installing it is remembering that the mounting bolts screw in anti-clockwise (“lefty-tighty”)
Does that footbar do anything? It’s got springs, looks like it can be easily removed. I cannot figure it out
