Newport Beach JLR - wrong about deliveries.

On June 1, I received the docs indicating July 13 build, Sept 26 delivery for an FE.
I had also asked the salesman to notify me if they get a showroom sample so I can see how I fit.
Then I read on this site that there were delays.
So on Aug 1, (this is after the 'build' date) I requested updated information and when I can see one.
I was told that everything was on schedule I'd be notified if anything changes, and notified when I can see a physical sample.

Come Aug 16, stopped by the dealership because of the rumor on this board was there would be an i-Pace for static display.
I did not expect to see one, since the salesman told me only 2 weeks early he would let me know if one arrived.
Well, there was an HSE there, and apparently a static display from 2pm-7pm only with a presentation and Q&A. I arrived at 1 pm, could not stay, and it was One Day Only.
I looked the car over, checked the room, the 14-50 charger, but could not evaluate much more.

When I called asking about if not attending the presentation would have any effect on my delivery, they said no. I asked if my Sept delivery was still good.

Nope. It was even built yet. Delivery est late November. Maybe. As I found with Tesla, if they are wrong once, sometimes it becomes a pattern.

I needed the car for tax purposes before the end of the year.

I'll admit I'm praying somebody comes out with something else interesting this winter that is actually available. I don't have a warm fuzzy that Jag can deliver the car before Dec 31. Or I just buy another ICE toy. I've been driving on electricity for over 5 years, so it's not like getting left standing at the altar is going to ruin me.

Bummed to say the least. And embarrassed since I told friends and customers I'm getting Jaguar EV next month. And I was going to give my daughter my current car this weekend (it has AEB, hers does not), but I like the car and don't want to do without Adaptive Cruise Control for 2 to ??? months.

For Newport Jaguar, it is a minor concern. After seeing the F-Type convertible, she is thinking about buying one for herself. Small potatoes, $160,000+ worth of cars, they probably move that much every 15 minutes. But I thought I'd let folk know not to believe what they say without secondary validation.

I think this goes without saying for car dealers in general. My experience has been similar at Newport Beach. The sales person seems nice enough, but schedule info has been vague and they have not gone out of their way to keep me updated.

They really should have let you know about the display this week - I at least got an email inviting me. Was there a presentation? I just showed up and they found a guy to answer a couple questions for me. Didn't see any presentation.

My delivery estimate has been delayed now to after Christmas. I also specifically requested delivery before year end; at this point, I'd give it no more than a 50-50 chance. I was also told they expect to have I-Pace available for test drives in October, though I don't put much stock in that, either. Like you, I'd like a nice new EV, but I don't expect anything comparable to be available for at least a year. I guess I could still go for a Model 3, but Tesla Corp. seems like it may be falling apart now. Or a nice ICE car. Or just keep waiting...

Thanks for the updates, guys. Very sorry to hear about the delays. And no test drives until October? Difficult to imagine there'll be any U.S. deliveries prior to November, then. I'm also a Tesla hold-out . . . but for 1/3 the monthly cost of the I-Pace I've ordered, I may dip my toe into the EV world with a Bolt lease . . . and simply wait for things to settle down in the meantime.

I'll check my schedule first, and see if it's also getting pushed out.
The Bolt is not a bad choice. I drove one for a few months. It's a nice little car, I just wish it had a few more luxury features, particularly Adaptive Cruise Control. I will consider getting another Bolt, if nothing better comes along fairly soon.
Frustrating, but not surprising ... and certainly not embarrassing for you (McRat) in light of Tesla's constant challenges.
The idea that some other EV will magically appear for purchase before the end of the year seems highly unlikely. The Bolt is dorky as heck. And I'm not buying the Tablet on Wheels, Aka the Model Frog ;)
So I'm just going to be patient; fortunately I don't have a tax issue and if my January delivery date slips I don't care too much.

It would be interesting to find out whether your orders are getting pushed back in favor of other orders or whether actual production is delayed across the board.
Yep. Went ahead and test drove the Bolt today. The seats really kill it: front seats are like kiddie seats (too small) and rear stadium seating places my head in the ceiling. Close but no cigar. No updated response yet RE: my I-Pace dates.

It's on display at Penske JLR in Cerritos from August 17 to August 22. We stopped today. My sales guy even showed me the 50KWh fast charger and 7KWh charger that were installed at the dealership. What he said is that Jaguar is probably tightening the production and delivery of I-Pace; so those with original September delivery dates are delayed to November and those with delivery dates in January 2019 have been expedited to December 2018 (like mine). It's got lots of room inside. Unfortunately, not test drives allowed as of yet.

Thanks for the pix and info (I-Pace does look better than the Bolt, ha ha).

I'm an Aug. order with a late Dec. delivery date, if it holds -- which appears to align with what you're reporting.

Actually, the front seats are the main concern I have about the I-Pace, having sat in one this week. The I-Pace driver's seat felt uncomfortably narrow (the bottom, not the back). It supposedly has 18-way adjustments, so I'm hoping one of the adjustments can improve this. Anyone else tried out the 'sport' seats and had a similar feeling?

I found the Bolt front seats quite comfortable myself, but I know lots of people had the same reaction you did. I'm surprised about the rear headroom though - I'm an inch or two over six feet, and had plenty of headroom in the back of the Bolt. Front and rear headroom also seem fine in the I-Pace, except there's that big black rubber or plastic thing on the middle of the glass roof in the rear - the sales guy told me it's for interior overhead lighting. Whatever it is, it means only short people should sit in the rear middle seat of the I-Pace.

Tesla then. You can use my referral code if you like?

I'll get my coat ... :)

Tesla Corp. seems like it may be falling apart now.
They always have been ... particularity if you read the FUD from the Shorts ...

... might be true this time, of course ...

I've been driving Tesla for a couple of years now. Love the car and the whole EV thing, not got much good to say about service and support (here in UK at least).

Nothing would induce us to buy ICE again. Went on a 450 each-way mile trip just recently (long way for a Brit!!) and got a mile down the road and Tesla announced that it had a puncture so we turned back and took the ICE instead. Very tiring journey, and I was stalling it all over the place, and when my wife did a stint she was in wrong gear much of the time. The sooner we can switch to 100% ICE-free EV driving the better AFAIAC

For a new car my requirement is now: EV, Cruise Control and Stay-in-Lane (at least as good as Tesla AP1) on highway. I'm not fussed about auto-drive on back roads

I'm considering a P3D trimmed to about $77k. Just worried they won't deliver either. They pushed back my original invite date 3 times (since Nov 2017) and I finally cancelled my reservation last month assuming they weren't going to deliver cars for many more months, and reservations did not matter.
Will follow up with my dealer in NJ on any updates or changes. I'm scheduled for a Thanksgiving pickup as of today. I asked corporate if I could drive the car and they said flat out NO! Very frustrating!

It's complete pants. Tesla took (I assume: unexpectedly) half-a-million orders, and then had many months, before the first one was on the road, to figure out a way of allocating them, and still screwed it up.

I can forgive them that the Ramp-up was slower than they hoped, so they needed to throttle the invites, but delaying people multiple times is not clever (and dear oh deary me ... Jag are shaping up to do the same :( )

I also cut them a little slack that they needed to slow-ball the deliveries in the run-up to hitting the subsidised-price threshold on deliveries ("ship everything we are making to Canada for a bit", but that ought to have been followed by "Fulfil every USA order Pronto" surely?

Maybe your card is marked McRat? :surprise:

Of course folk like me, in UK, with wrong-side-steering-wheel, have even longer to wait ... and by the time the vehicle gets here production will be 10,000 a week and the whole of the UK backlog will be built in a week or two ... so absolutely pointless having a "day one reservation" (in fact I figured that, and didn't bother ... one of the very few smart things I've done in my life ... and as an existing Tesla owner a new order on the day that UK folk are invited will probably get me a delivery only a week or two later than everyone else here).

I could understand Jag saying "We've got a problem and are pushing back all deliveries for X days/weeks/months" but I don't understand this seemingly poor communication, is there some explanation for that? My thoughts are all sinister - like dealers gazumping earlier firm orders because later Punters will pay a premium.

450 miles does sound too long for Airstrip One, but I guess you have that Chunnel now...

I feel much the same way about the Tesla - the Model 3 looks like a great car, but life is too short to waste it wrestling with manufacturing defects, Tesla service delays, parts shortages, etc.

I like electric a lot, but I really don't find it THAT different from internal combustion. I switched (twice) between my Bolt EV and my 20-year old Lexus LS, and it was much less of a jolt than I would have expected - both cars have plenty of pep, both are very quiet to drive, both handle well, etc. There's the occasional stop at the gas station vs plugging in every night - again a fairly minor difference (though I do prefer the convenience of home charging). I'd be fine with one more ICEV, but it just seems a little outmoded. And if it's anything like the old Lexus, my new ICEV might last longer than I will, and then I'd never drive another electric!

I've found the 20 miles I get with my A3 to be transformative. I optimize my consumption to return home with 0 miles left after a day at work and an after work bike ride. I want that for longer distances. I will not go back to ICE as my main driver ***BUT*** I have a 2004 Air suspension VW Touareg parked on a trickle charger under cover and it gets deployed when we need space and quick travel. I can only 'afford' the iPace because I have a spacious and capable ICE as backup.

20 miles on an A3 e-tron? That's a very rare occasion for me. I'm happy if I'm able to get 18 miles in one charge.

The Model 3 is not even on my radar. No sedans for me. Only hatches and wagons. The big tablet in the middle of the screen is a no for me. I don’t want to wear my reading glasses just to adjust the climate controls. Lack of leather seats is also a no. Also not looking buy an EV car since battery technology changes rapidly.

Don't bring that creepy Tesla/Elon Trump fake news crap to this site for god's sake.
I would venture a guess the i-Pace holdup is due to how wrong they were with the WLTP estimate in the UK. At least that what I hope, so that they will fine tune for range, not just acceleration.

There is no stock ticker on this site. Which is true for every single auto enthusiast web forum except Tesla. They are unique in that aspect. Nobody cares about Ford's capitalization as much as how quick you ran last weekend, or how modified the air intake for 10 extra horseys for free.
OP--the order dates on your order print off seem legit, but I don't believe they are ever meant to be firm delivery dates. AFAIK, Jaguar has never promised a launch date for the i-pace in the US, just second half of the year. What I've learned is your dealer isn't going to know anything. You just need to get get in the habit and ask them on a weekly or bi weekly status to pull the latest order info. The earliest you'll get it is the official launch date, which would be after EPA and NHTSA approval, all training's done for dealer service centers, etc.

What happened for the F-Pace launch, we were were given similar vague time frames when we ordered, then our excitement grew when the orders had better than expected delivery dates. Then they got mysteriously pushed back. Next thing you know I'm getting a call from the dealer saying my car will be ready for pickup in a few days. What helped us out on the F-Pace forum was we figured out how to track cars in transit via the order number. It seems the ocean carrier stopped allowing people to do that as of a few months ago unfortunately. Ultimately we ended up getting the car earlier than was on my initial order.
