Whenever we get one of our infrequent cold snaps, my airbag light stays on and after a few weeks when things warm up, goes back off again. It has been on since that last winter blast and I had an appointment today to have it addressed. It was on yesterday. It went off today as I was driving to the dealer.

There's a documented issue with the seat belt buckles setting off an amber warning regarding the air bags - I had it last winter. The symptoms were intermittant at first - I never figured out what was triggering it - and would last for a few days. Eventually it stayed on permanently.

You might be seeing moisture condensing on a broken or loose electrical contact that doesn't dry out until the car warms up over a long period.

Haha oh well. Airbag fault codes should be stored forever, so hopefully your dealer will still see it.
I asked the service writer if that was the case, and he wasn't sure. I decided to leave with the car and come back if the light returns.

Perhaps a connection is loose and the cold weather makes things shrink just a little…
That's my theory. The light stays on for a while after things warm up, so I assume that once an error is logged, it takes a certain number of restarts for it to reset.

Maybe the light finally burned out as well! ;)
It still turns on during the start up sequence, but this reminds me of the time I fixed the CEL on my '85 Golf with a smiley face bullet wound sticker.

Side note: It and the other symbols that are along the outer edges of the main display are required by regulations to have a "bulb check" during startup. That's why they are not a part of the digital display.

I wonder if a car part store that offers free code reading could retrieve any fault codes for this. It might be worth a few minutes if it comes to mind when you pass such a place.

It’s a harness routing issue under the seat. I had a similar intermittent issue and the tech figured it out and fixed it for good, all under warranty 😀

Cold snap over the weekend brought back the airbag light. The dealer got me in immediately, but they are short on techs and it may be a week in a Corolla courtesy car.

LOL ... I actually chose the Corolla. I don't plan on transporting passengers this week and I'd rather have something small to park. Plus it was brand new and didn't smell funny.
