I had been posting on the Facebook buy-back page but was booted off for violating FB's terms- WTF? I never use FB so no loss to me
My stats: I-Pace SE, just under $80k sticker bought new with 83 miles at a ridiculously reduced price in May 2020 in the covid times. I flew to FL to purchase and had it shipped to Illinois. My car currently has just over 22k miles in 5 years and for the most part, save the small battery dying and stranding me at a client, fairly reliable, noting the occasional weird brake messages, trips to the dealer and other glitches that have occurred thru-out ownership. I have been at the dealer less than with a former Audi ICE, but definitely more than any other ICE car over the years. I accepted that as part of being on the leading edge of electric. Like many of you, I LOVE the car and had no intention of parting with it. I am angry that I had to deal with a new car purchase (I ended up leasing instead)
JLR did not reach out to me except for the letters we all received. The I-Pace forum/FB page has been instrumental in sharing information which led me proactively to call and submit my name for the recall at the beginning of March. It took about 3 business days to receive an email from my adviser at Morley. I provided the required information less the sales contract and waited 9 days to receive the offer of just over $29k which I politely responded to with reasons, that it was insufficient. I countered with $35k siting a lemon law $45k calculation and the need to rent a few cars for work due to the 80% reduction, new tires, new registration etc. It took 9 calendar days to receive a counteroffer of $31,343; not what I wanted but not sure how much fight I have left and I have not asked any state AG to intervene but if I was much less satisfied, and had the time, I would pursue that direction. Some people received higher offers, some less- mine appears to be about the average. I didn’t see any rationale for how prices were determined as my vehicle had very low mileage
After numerous recent calls into Morley's buyback numer (with mostly no one answering ever) I reached someone today who said that the deal was cleared to happen at my chosen dealer. I am not sure why Morley/JLR was not proactive contacting me. I was told that they can now schedule for a week out- I selected the first date possible. The buyback is May 5.
It’s been 5 weeks From the date that the contract was sent back signed until today’s scheduling.
In the meantime I drove a slew of EV’s but none compare to the I-Pace. Considering the horrific depreciation in the luxury EV market, I leased an Acura ZDX for 24 months (mentioned on the forum as a real lease steal) while I await the next round of battery and charging developments. With any vehicle, each has their pluses and minuses in my estimation. I’m not in love with the ZDX exterior design, acceleration or steering, but it’s larger than the I-Pace, has a somewhat minimalist interior (unlike Cadillac’s offerings) has a decent range, a better one-pedal driving experience, better nav and infotainment and motorized sunroof. The residual buy-out would be very reasonable if I decide to keep the car.
I feel confident that there will be a class-action suit including all of us and additional money will be forthcoming, albeit way down the road. But for now, I like many others just need to move forward. I feel for all of us in our big, sad brotherhood/ sisterhood of disappointed I-Pace owners.
