That smells like a slimy dealer who wants to purchase the car from you for pennies and then profit from the buyback. I would be shocked if JLR only offered $23.5K for a mandatory buy-back.
Agreed. On this forum, NO ONE has received any actual offer for a buyback from JLR (and they won't be doing it through dealers which are essentially franchised resellers and authorized repair centres, but are not actual JLR). If the dearer is offering something, it is because they think the buyback will yield the a profit.

I just talked to JLR customer service today. She said I should expect to be contacted about the buyback in about a week. I asked if they had already started contacting individuals about buyback offers and she said no.

I started the buyback process at the end of November, before JLR announced anything about it.

I was offered a $50,000 buyback by JLR for the H484 recall. The check was to come to me, not the dealer. Being that the my state has a nearly 10% sales tax, the buyback offer was essentially $45,000 when the money was spent for a new car. That meant I would need to come up with around $25,000 to replace my 2019 I-pace with a new I-pace. I was not interested in bailing out JLR with my dollars. I took the new battery option and now have new batteries. JLR graciously also repaired some other electrical issues at no cost to me. In my experience, the service department at my dealership was outstanding. The sales department at the same dealership, and the 5 or 6 other dealers I contacted, had no interest in working with me to resolve the issue as part of trade in for a new Jaguar. Suggest that patience is a virtue and holding out for a deal that is fair is reasonable.

that doesn't make sense? I thought there was no repair option? You are saying your turned down 50K for your 2019 I pace?

Glad you got a resolution that you felt was fair. I would tend to agree that $50k was a low ball offer.

Welp, here we are...Jan 2nd, and nothing from JLR on the buyback process or timeline. I hope this isn't indicative of how things will proceed, but I'm not holding my breath that things will be easy.

I started the buyback process at the beginning of September. Still no offer. Contemplating using a CA Lemon Law attorney.
The dealership had our car from 6/5 until 12/31. We refused to pick it up when they contacted us in mid December saying it was "repaired". We said no thank you, and kept the loaner car. Unfortunately they showed up at our home yesterday and dropped of the car and took the loaner back :(

Just a reminder, I am sharing my experience from the H484 recall. It seems to me that at some point, JLR has to make its customers satisfied or face fines since this is a recall. My suspicion is that you have received an opening offer and that if you are patient you may get a better offer. But I am no smarter than you so I may be wrong. It would seem reasonable that the experiences of those who went through (and are still going through) the H484 recall might benefit those in the H514 recall.

Yes, I turned down $50,000 as a check to me since if used for car replacement I had to pay sales tax on the new car, so the $50,000 quickly dropped to $45,000. Other users of this forum shared their experiences. One received $60,000 credit on an new car (not a check). Another paid $7,000 for a 2024 I-pace. Another traded keys for his/her 2019 I-Pace and drove home with a 2023 I-pace with "$0 out of pocket". When I shared these expectations with the JLR rep, I was told that my information was inaccurate. After 6 months, I was a bit worn down but still felt that given my low milage car and the fact that I tend to keep cars for 10 years, it was not fair to me that I needed to come up with $25 K plus or minus to get a replacement I-Pace. When my charging port broke, the car was then actually in the dealership for repair and Jaguar replaced the batteries and fixed all other electrical issues at no charge to me. I felt this was a fair solution although I would have preferred to be treated like the other customers. The other customers may have been from California or they may have had dealers who were willing to advocate for them. This was my first new Jaguar and I bought it from another dealer; I received no advocacy from the dealership whatsoever on buyback / trade but I received excellent treatment from the service department.

My suggestion for your consideration is that if you think the offer is not fair, then say no. This is a recall. They may try to wear you down but in the final analysis you have to agree to the deal. In my case it was a 6 month process and I believe it has been longer for others.

If your dealer will advocate for you, that may be helpful. Unfortunately, that may be rare. Here is one youtuber's thoughts on Jaguar dealers.

If you find any of this useful, you may want to save a copy. Some of my prior posts have disappeared.

Good luck. The I-pace is a great car and hopefully this experience will turn out well for you in the long run.

Yes I need a couple new tires. Hate to spend the money if the vehicle is gone in 45 days. Or is this going to drag out another year....

No, it is not repaired!
Brilliant idea/way to stand up to these fiends. When this all started, I'd been trying to be considerate of the dealership & others who may have needed a loaner before I knew what was going on with reduced capacity + recalls; once they blew me off and told me '🤷🏻‍♂️ We got nothing, deal with it', I found this forum.
Already filed complaints with Bbb & NHTSA to cover my back.
Haven't used my car in a month, and looking to seek council within the month if I don't hear anything.
Maybe I should start her up and hope for another fault so I can get a loaner 🤣.... And hold it hostage.

As of January 2nd, my 19’ i-Pace has been in shop for 5 months waiting for cell(s) replacement. I’ve had a loaner, so my dealer isn‘t completely worthless. However, I believe they are aware of a buy back and don’t want to repair if it’s going to be scrapped eventually. So, I‘m not really sure who is holding who hostage.🤔 Hopefully we’ll all get “the letter“ soon.

My 2019 vehicle has been with the dealer since Oct first week for cell replacements. At least they gave me a loaner vehicle and I am working with both dealer and JLR customer service to get rid of it.

Do you blame them? It sucks for sure. The dealers aren't the problems. It's JLR. The dealers didn't build these cars. Honestly I blame LG Chem more than JLR for all these battery issues. The dealer needs to get their loaner back and give you back your property. I hope they resolve your buy back process soon. I know JLR has contracted a 3rd party company to help with the process. Hopefully the resolution will happen soon.

Back in the day when I worked for a JLR dealer. We would go snatch and grab our loaners back from those who were holding them hostage. Remember there's always a bonus key🤣

I am in California and only found out about the buyback option in mid December after I experienced more battery issues with the car. My cars vin is on of the 2019 ipaces that supposedly is going to be bought back(I looked it up on JLR website). I continued to be given the run around with JLR about there being a process and they are not sure how long things can take. I thought it would be clear and simple especially when they know my VIN number is one of the vehicles that they need to buy back. I am in CA and with our lemon laws I am led to believe that everything will work itself out . However, with the lack of communication from JLR it may be best just to hire a lawyer? Having my car charge to only 80% of capacity does not work for my commute so I frustrated and feel like I am not being heard.

The jaguar rep I spoke with today told me the official communication is to expect an email, phone call, and letter within 2 to 3 weeks. A follow-up will come a week after. She said my assigned representative will work with me to find multiple options to correct the situation. She also said she believes that most of the affected parties will actually be contacted by the end of this week based on internal communications. The service representative at the local dealership knew nothing about it when I had the update done last week and when I spoke with him again yesterday, he's still claimed to know nothing about a repurchase program. He told me to expect another software update in the coming months to fix the problem and return the charging level back to 100%. I don't have the warm and fuzzies over this for sure...
No there is no fix for the 2019 version. I can’t get straight answer— customer service says they don’t know who to contact but I should hear within a couple weeks…. I heard that every time I called beginning early Dec. I sure hope I hear soon, I am about to sign docs with lemon law lawyer.

How recent was this offer of $50,000?
