Hi, I just called the Jaguar number and will be assigned someone soon. I bought the car second hand from a JRL dealership CPO. What should I expect or do? Any advice would be very helpful.

I called today and was told someone would be contacting me in a week or so. I was pissed because I was told back in December that cases would be processed by when you got the 514 update installed. I've called Customer service a number of times and was told...any day now. On one call I was told to expect a call, email, letter within 7 days.

Oh well, at least the ball seems to be moving now. Overall it is a pretty crappy way for JLR to treat their customers. Personally, I don't care what they come out with in the future... Never again.

All,

This is my first post. I loved my I pace, but like we all know its being bought back.

I called the number on the TSB and next day got my email. I indicated KBB is a little light where I got a little pushback saying its 6 years old. Mine was bought in 2021 as brand new and I have 48,000 or so miles with 2 years warranty remaining on a car I don't want to sell. She said send over the paperwork and we can talk about a number.

I sent it all today. Lets see how it goes.
I hired a lawyer yesterday, suing for breach of contract under the battery warranty so I don't need to worry about weak lemon laws.

As of today, I received an email from Morley regarding the repurchase. Perhaps having made complaints with NHTSA, FTC and The FL Attorney General triggered something?

I feel that the attached is a generic email meant to pressure anyone who is already beat down, and not paying attention. Note the composition & formatting.

-My response kept it professional while making it clear their offer is unacceptable. I did not "refuse" any offers.
-Referenced precedent (Chevy, VW) to show their approach is unfair, and failed miserably when attempted by GM & VW.
-Referenced the warranty, and the owner's manual regarding the dispute resolution supplement.
-Pushed for transparency on how they're calculating these low offers.
-Signaled that legal escalation is on the table if they don't reconsider.

Hope everyone is contacted soon, and that you stand strong + are made whole.
I received an email with some of the same language as posted in your letter. It was not an official JLR letter, but did come from my Jaguar repurchasing coordinator. I plan on following a similar approach, in that a depreciated market value will not suffice. I do live in California with strong lemon laws. Hopefully this will move the needle.

For those who accepted the offer, how long to turn the car in a get the check? asking for a friend
I started the whole buy back process back in mid December. I accepted an offer in late January and it took about 40 days for them to get back to me with instructions on how to turn the car in and the check is being delivered today.

My I pace wasn't mis behaving relative to the battery, it had other strange problems (Car jerks to a halt when going very slow, Dash panel says Park but middle PRNDL says "D"). I was hoping to keep driving it for another 10 years (it was supposed to have a 15 year life span and a 10 year WARRANTED battery life warranty). Recently the dealer gave me the OK for me to bring the car in and start the recall process on my car. I am rather sad my Silicon Silver with Saddle Brown interior and wood dash panels and no curb rash to the wheels is headed for a car crusher. There were other people with problem cars worse than mine for non EV battery cell issues so I had to wait. JLR of USA just said we'll contact you. The dealership told me buy back value would be based on Kelly Blue Book. 20% per year depreciation is the generic KBB rate as stated by the person above, no extra $$$ for higher cost factory paint, wheels and interior trim options. But in my state, the depreciation is only from when one bought the car (2019 for me) till the first complaint or recall notice (2023)... which less depreciation. An early I pace recall posting stated depreciation %=years used/10 year battery warranted life span. My state then treats those lost years of depreciation 2023 to 2025 as the OEM car makers loss or penalty for causing the vehicle issue not the vehicle owners financial loss. The OEM car maker (Jaguar) then turns around and gives the supplier LG the recall bill (last count was $2.2B USD for GM alone). When investigating a replacement EV... I found that other car makers who also used the LG batteries are having recalls === but not as public as Jaguars. So I am at a loss for trying to find a replacement EV without LG cells is a hard thing to do since LG was often number 1 and 2 automotive Lithium Ion battery cell supplier (Lithium Magneese Coblat type). A few new car companies are using the less fire hazard LFP (Lithium Iron Phoshate), but those cars have less range or distance capability == pick your poison. Less range, less cold temperature operation or tiny fire hazard risk. Had the vehicle had a better quality battery, the vehicle's current value to me wanting to keep the car for another 10 years exceeds KBB value. To get me into a similar car with similar miles and features is going to cost me $$$ and added taxes I would not have had to spend money upon. KBB value is fine for business and people who lease or own for 1 to 3 years... but not long term owners who will drive a car till it falls apart for maximum personal use value. Does anyone have details as to what Jaguar uses as start and end dates to their buy back calculation? or does one sign a NDA forebidding them from public discussion of the topic?

Can't answer your question and yet initially I would have recommended replacing the 12v battery(s). I hope the buy back goes well for you.

Not a ton of info but here is what they said.

Those Who have had the latest update will be first in line.

Notices should go out at earliest end of this week but most likely next week via email, Phone, and mail.

They are going to ask you to take your Ipace to the local dealer

You will be assigned a mediator as part of this process for negotiating purposes.

Lets all stick together and share during this process to make sure know one is taken advantage of.
The normal mediator process can end, and all owners should join a class action. There is already one ongoing in California. I dislike the sound of the mediated "appointed" surely, you should choose by questioning them .

I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that if you're in California you should be getting something close to your total $ in, not current market value. I went ahead and filed a CA lemon law case in court last week, if only so that the whole mess becomes a conversation between lawyers that I can stay out of until it's done. I'll let you know how that goes (subject to confidentiality language).
There is a class action for Californian owners.

While I reside in California, as the law was written it only applies to vehicles purchased at California dealers. My I-Pace was purchased before I relocated here. I have sent requests to several CA lemon law firms, and none have gotten back to me. How did you file in court?

I live in Michigan. I hope the third party and Jaguar are reasonable to work with... and lawyers and court filings are not needed.
Me too, I am in Michigan. I told the 3rd party I would go the lemon law route if the offer is subpar. He said lemon law won't apply. I thought to myself this can't be right. I actually bought CPO used not new, but lemon law should still apply. It's a vehicle not safe and not doing what it is advertised for, and mine spent significant time in the dealership waiting for battery fix. So I think it's a coercion tactic.

You have 2 issues at play. Michigan Lemon Law would apply to the value when you first complained about the 12V battery issue minus taxes paid minus 10 cents per mile till now + any repair expense you paid = is what you should get if its been in dealer repair for more than 30 days total. The HV battery setting itself on fire is a different issue would in my belief be relative to the value in mid 2023 at the first recall less sales taxes paid minus 10 per mile driven since that date till now+any special costs to clean up the mess for when it happens. Even though I didn't complain about the HV fire, the USDOT complained on everyone's behalf. If the HV fire happens, the car turns to ashes...nothing to drive, nothing fixable. Nobody wants the HV car fire to happen to have something to complain about... it could burn your house down and physically injure you and your family. Now is your 12V battery issue before or after mid 2023, or older closer to when you bought your car? In my case I have no 12V issue, just the HV battery issue. Its a bit harder to accurately identify the value or sellable price in mid 2023, far in time from 2019 when I bought the car. I can't get Kelly Blue Book to tell me now the resale price in 2023 when I had 30K Miles vs now 2 years later. The 15k miles since mid 2023 are easy to evaluate. But the mid 2023 value is hard even for the bean counters to figure out unless lawyers make a special request to KBB. Personally, $5K to $10K above what it might have been should not matter much, Jaguar turns around and bills Magna Steir Austria for it who then bills LG for it. I can understand the entire food chain not wanting too much sloppy cost over evaluations or closing cost proposals. Like everyone for their personal car, I want an over estimation and not an underestimation on the starting value in the Michigan calculation. What the calculation is in their state or country, can all be different. So what a Michigan person gets offered can be different than what someone is offered in California or Canada or Australia or where ever they are (the variations in all the laws can be mind boggling). I certainly would not accept a "todays value". Which is $0. One can not sell the I Pace with the death certificate of this particular recall. Any simple VIN search for free will reveal this serious safety recall... my car is not publically sellable by a licensed dealer. They would not touch it or accept for a trade in value because of this recall. Which is probably true around the world for the 2018 and early 2019 I Paces.

The value is certainly much higher than $0. Do a quick search. There are still plenty of used 2019 I-Paces for sale and they are selling. I just bought one 3 weeks ago. The value of the 2019 I-Pace is comparable to the value of a 2019 Tesla. All EVs have depreciated heavily. Most used car shoppers and used car dealers are unaware of the recall.

I bought mine because I want to try out an EV with low risk of losing a ton of money to depreciation. After the $4K used EV tax credit, I will likely make a few bucks when I sell it back to Jaguar.

Also, based on what some have indicated, it seems the offers are more than fair. You could probably buy a similar 2020 I-Pace with the buyback check if you want to stay in an I-Pace.

Not all 2019 are effected by the buy back recall, 2019s on many web sites are not in this unique EV recall. The values for all Jag I Paces, even possibly the ICE types are degraded by association to the recalled EVs. If you did recently buy your I pace, the auditors will be checking on when you bought your car relative to the recall announcements. Relative to 202x model year I Pace values...MI law is based on your particular car, your purchase time price, your mileage since first recall or complaint, etc. nothing in the equation is based on other cars. MI law is biased in favor of the car customer or owner who "bought". Cars that were leased have no equity, no loss...car companies can swap those to a similar at similar monthly priced car for the recalled vehicle.
