The moment we’ve been waiting for is approaching; Jaguar is going to reveal the production ready I-Pace electric SUV on March 1. Ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 6, Jaguar will be unveiling the I-Pace online via a live global broadcast on the 1st at 1:00 p.m. ET. What’s more, I-Pace ordering books will open on that very same day.

According to AutoBlog, that wasn’t the only piece of news from the British manufacturer. With a 100-kilowatt DC fast charger, the I-Pace can regain 80% of its battery in just 45 minutes, which sounds better than the concept’s estimated 80% charge time of two hours on a 50-kW fast charger.

Much remains a mystery until the I-Pace’s livestream reveal including its range and performance. Perhaps we’ll see numbers similar to what the concept had to offer, which was 220 miles range on a full charge and a pair of electric motors delivery 400 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to rocket the I-Pace from 0-60 mph in around 4 seconds. Of course this is likely to be toned down in the production model.

What we can expect to stay true to concept is the electric vehicle’s exterior design. The multitude of prototype spy phots we’ve seen indicates as much.

I like how close this is happening to the Chicago Auto Show because odds are that will be where Jaguar gives us a first look at the production model, even if its not at the show, but the show used as a way to leverage all the eye balls that are already looking for information.

Excited to see just how close to the concept design it is and most importantly its performance if Jaguar plans to gun for Tesla. With how Jaguar has been revealing their other models by breaking a world record, I'm expecting something similar for the I-Pace as well.

So from what I've seen in the EV segment, it seems as though the biggest hindrance to charge time is the voltage offering of the charger itself. It seems every manufacturer is trying to make the next best supercharger. Tesla current offers a 480 volt charge, meanwhile Porsche has nearly doubled that with their proposed 800 volt superchargers for the Mission E. Either way it's impressive the Jaguar has already halved the charge time of the I-Pace from concept to production.

Funny how its happening not too far off from the E-Pace which has me thinking the E-Pace might provide some insight on what we can expect from the I-Pace although it will be few minor details. Still better than nothing.

Well, what are your thoughts after seeing the presentation yesterday? What did you like, what thrilled you, what gave you pause, what did you not have answered?
