My 2013 Tesla Model S was a huge rip off for car insurance. I sold it a few weeks ago, and man do I miss EVs.

I'm really looking at the ipace here, but my genius insurance company can't find the car...


They've asked if I have a VIN. Does anyone have a VIN or are any online I can borrow for a quote?

There is an online order tracking system for the UK, I cannot find it for the US.
I'll bug my dealer again.

But a VIN isn't going to help them much if their is zero vehicle history.
They would probably base it on the F-Pace history until they get numbers.

Just my two bits . . . repair costs due to aluminum, yes, but offset by safety features. My 2017 Jaguar actually costs less to insure per month than my 2005. I think the safety features on the '17 "S" are the reason (LKA, ACC, AEB, Blind Spot, backup cross traffic, 360 degree camera, etc), as well as SUV vs. sports car.

This question brings back bad memories when I got my i3. I was one of the first in my area to get an i3 when they came out. Insurance company was completely clueless. I'd say that the car was out about 4 months or so when I got it but I was obviously the first guy to get one with my brand of insurance. They just didn't have any idea where to price the insurance at, but when they learned it was a ton of carbon fiber and aluminum, up the price went. So I paid kinda high insurance for quite awhile. :crying: In fact when the lease was getting near done, I elected to not get another for the only reason of high insurance. I spoke to my insurance gal who is ultra awesome and explained why I was getting rid of the car and she called the insurance company and ripped 'em a new one after explaining to them that I insure 4 other cars through them and they're reaming me on my goin' green i3. I get a call the next day and my i3 insurance dropped by about a third, and it was a good deal. I decided then to get another i3 with more features.



I feel like this is going to happen again until the insurance companies figure it out after whatever they do to get a clue, and maybe a few actual repair bills. This is one reason why personally I think I'm going to wait on the decision to get rid of my i3 and XK for an IPace until they get stock, the price possibly more of a negotiable thing and the insurance figured out. Also, I still can't decide whether an IPace looks sexy enough to top my XK, but that's just me.

Tesla panels are expensive (or their labour is ... or summat ...)

Anyways, Tesla insurance was OK (in UK) when I got mine a couple of years ago, then sky rocketed (as Insurance companies started to discover" costs" ... or so it seemed.

That became a problem, so Tesla did some sort of deal with DirectLine who now quote reasonable prices, and seem to "understand" (but only if you are aware that you have to ask for the dedicated Tesla Team, and don't just call their Call Centre <sigh>

So ... long story short ... perhaps manufacturers of new cars she talk to insurers to get this sorted out ahead of putting it on sale.

My insurance quoted here in Seattle for I-Pace FE was $980 per year, which is about $150 higher then my wife's Range Rover Evoque. I have high liability limits, and 500/500 Deductibles Full coverage on glass. Its cheaper then our Lexus LX :)
