Infotainment issues almost immediately

Only 443 miles on the Odometer and I'm already at the service bay as we speak. the infotainment screen and climate control screens in the center stack both stopped working completely. No amount of turning off, turning on, locking, unlocking, charging, uncharging has resulted in them turning back on. so I basically have no media controls, No cameras, no backup camera, no climate controls, heated seats etc. On top of that the climate controls are blasting the heat on their own every time I start the car, so not only can you not control anything but it gets so hot in the car you have to roll the windows down just to drive it.

I am in San Diego and at the service department at this particular dealership is so backed up they said I can drop the car off today but they probably won't even look at it for two weeks, and they are all out of loaner cars, so I'm going to have to get some shity Enterprise rental car to drive while they let my car sit unused for two-plus weeks and I make a giant car payment to drive some crappy rental.

I also already have an open issue with support relating to the fact that are remote app does not work at all, none of the functionality of any of the screens will update properly or show the correct information. Jaguar corporate has contacted me and said that their text cannot even see our vehicle, so they think it's not even sending us a signal.

our experience thus far has been extremely disappointing in spite of the fact that the car is amazing in all other aspects, and really fun to drive. But these bugs are completely unacceptable and I am trying to figure out the best way to express my immense disappointment to Jaguar. I have also already started researching the lemon law in my state.

Unplug anything plugged into a USB port.

Lock your car. Wait about 3 minutes.

Unlock your car, get in, put your seatbelt on.

Press the ON button for a full 2 seconds with the brake pedal pushed.

Now if the screen wakes, wait until the NAV comes on completely. That is the last item in the boot sequence. It boots:

Climate
Phone
Music
NAV

billfan, your frustration is warranted, especially given lack of loaner and dealer wait time, but there are many of us that have had (almost) ZERO issues with the car, and I'm over 3000 mi now (just shy of 3 months). I feel guilty as I've had a loaner (another I-Pace FE) for three weeks only on account of a paint/trim issue that I initiated at purchase (not because of any problem with my I-Pace). I hope once resolved you can enjoy as expected. Unfortunately I think most dealers are ill-equipped to handle these software issues - I hope they're escalating to appropriate levels.

I was waiting for an extended period in my vehicle. Car was off and enjoying the XM radio. Radio eventually turns off so I start the vehicle and let it run in ready mode. Eventually the message says to press the brake or the car will shut down to save the battery. I hold the brake until the message goes away. After another extended wait I turn the car off to walk about some. Getting still waiting 90 minutes.

.... After all this my generally trouble free car gives the blank screens and other mayhem for the next several starts. Coincidence? I think the engineers just did not consider all the out of "normal" usage. Problem persists until reboots a normal sequence a few times.

Welcome to the club of "Screens frozen" ! The UK forum has this documented and is on its 29th page with over 23,000 views.
I have had my share of the same problem and had the car at the dealership for 21 day in the first month!
The screens have not frozen again but today it is back to the service bay for the following:
1. Drivers side view mirror stuck in the folded position on two separate occasions. Had to get off the highway, stop completely, get out and lock/unlock the car before the mirrors opened out. Really DANGEROUS TO DRIVE without your side mirrors, I learnt!
2. Battery does not charge to more than 195-205 mile range. My wife's round trip in 130 miles, and she gets terrible "range anxiety" on her return drive home as the battery is down to about 30 mile range when she is 50 miles from home!

If your car is inoperable and they do not give you an appropriate loaner, I would definitely expect JLR to pay for your month finance charges and pay for your rental. I am also very close to enacting the Lemon Law in NC. Please keep us posted.

Well now I'm nervous, I'm in NC and am expecting my new HSE in just a few weeks...
2. Battery does not charge to more than 195-205 mile range.
That seems quite reasonable actually. What has been her average fuel mileage? That range equals about 2.4 miles/kW, which is right in line with ‘normal’ unless she has 18 inch tires and is not using much for accessories and is keeping the speed below 55mph.

This needs a clarification. The battery does not charge in 'miles' it charges in kWh. How you decide to consume kWhs is a personal decision. You can empty the battery in 80 miles or 300 miles it's your decision.

The decision to drive 130 miles a day is also a personal one. I would make sure there are no firearms available, 'cause I'd suck the bbl if I had to drive 150 miles a day again. Although my drive was in heavy traffic and could take over 3h one way. But if she keeps it down 90 mph, she's going to make 130 miles if you have the precondition enabled.

Range anxiety is a real issue. I offered to give my wife the Jag and I would order another. No way. Her commute? 4 miles. Longest normal trip? 150 miles. Which I've personally proven to her is not a problem. I told her I could get her a 335 mile EV. Nope. She WILL drive the Chevrolet Volts though, and has put a lot miles on them. They have no anxiety. But her normal car is a CT6 Platinum which is really nice sedan with about 500 miles of freeway range. She doesn't use 1/2 the features or it's abilities. For comfy driving, it would be my second choice after the I-Pace.

I would guess they are going to get both the infotainment computer and the charging system fixed by the summer. Just a hunch from reading TOPix and what JLR is told now to address the problems.

Personally, I had several Black Screens of Doom, rogue NAV, stubborn recharging, and if somebody asked me to carry a live tissue sample 205 miles this AM, I'd take the Jag even when I have 6 other choices. It's been to the dealer for repair 3 times, only 1 time did I let them touch it. It had NO effect. The next day a Black Screen occurred because I had an I-Bone plugged in. An I-Bone is like an I-Phone, but you can't trust it. It will bone you when need it the most. I WOULD bring a second phone.

The biggest irritant for me on the I-Pace is the lack of OnStar. Second was the lack of a digital rearview. Other than that, I enjoy going for drives. I can just tell an employee to make a parts run or errands. But I do them myself because it's enjoyable, especially in the I-Pace.

My thought on all of these screen issues is that people are used to getting in and going. Many newer cars have a delay where the nav and infotainment system is booting (even my wife’s Honda does this). I had a few black screens early on because I was trying to drive the car without letting it get to at least the music part of the boot up. Once I started waiting for about 30 secs I never had another issue.

Is this annoying for a car that costs $90K? Absolutely! But this is such a small issue when considering the total package the car delivers. I don’t regret my purchase at all...best car I have owned to date!
There are a few threads on this since it's a common issue many on the forums here before you experience this few lucky ones haven't. I have been in three times for this for software upgrades and the last time to have the telematics control unit replaced. Since they replace the TCU my screens have been solid not completely bug free but pretty solid and haven't turned off at all. Ask your local dealers if they have dealt with this. Call around to see if one has experience with the issue. The dealer I went to, went to school on my car, 1st to be serviced at their dealership. You have a few dealer options for service in San Diego.

I have not read the entire thread so this is based on my experience. Good luck oh and I can tell you the lemon laws are on your side. The dealer brought it up and was ready to offer a replacement without me broaching subject. I preferred not to do that because rebates request and taxes were sent and didn't want to deal with paperwork to change out Vin and delay of getting new car.

Had black screens earlier today. NAV between the speedometer and the charge/power dials eventually came around after about 5 minutes of driving. Lower screen was empty (like a blank tab) until I hit the icon for HVAC controls.

I've also had instances where the rear camera did not come on, or it came on and stayed on while driving.
Posted this in a couple other places but following up here as well:

Here are my updates after the first 3 weeks of ownership:
- At the 2 week mark, the infotainment and climate control screens stopped working and the heater wouldnt turn off. Incontrol App also would not work at all...no accurate information because it couldnt update the data from the car. Opened issue with JLR tech support, they said they could not get a signal from the car.

-Brought it into dealership for service immediately because car was undriveable (got too hot inside because heater wouldnt turn off...plus no screens). Service said they were backed up 2 weeks-ish. I complained and escalated to manager. They moved my car up and looked at it after 5 days. Took another 2 days of them fiddling with it along with JLR headquarters technicians to do 3 software updates.

-Got my I-Pace back on 3/15, all screens working properly (although still take a while to boot up on a fresh start of the car) but now when I try to add certain shortcuts to the Home screen (such as the EV Panel which gives you shortcuts to Creep mode and Regen mode) will not stick. Every time I start the car again the EV Panel Title Bar still shows but the Creep, Regen buttons are gone. Have to delete the shortcut and re-add to get it to stay. Creep function, even when I turn on, reverts back to Off the next time i start the car. So every day now I have to delete the EV Panel shortcut, re-add it, then re-enable Creep. Very annoying.

-Incontrol app was still not working until today, 3/19. still working with JLR support, who said I needed to bring it back into service dept. I did NOT want to do that but felt like I had no choice. All of a sudden today, the app seems to have magically started working, including pre-conditioning functionality which never worked before today. Last time the app was updated was 2/28 so no idea why it's working now and not before.

-Spoke to service rep today and we agreed that I would test the app for the next 2 days and call him on 3/21. If it's not still working well I'll bring it back in and they'll make it a priority to look at, as well as the issue of Home page shortcuts and Creep mode not sticking

-Still have my case open with JLR tech support. Told them I'll update them in a few days of using the Incontrol app, and they can coordinate with my service dept if the app stops working.

Update 3/22/19:

Black screens have seem to gone away. I'm on what service says is the latest software version. S19A_19.07.2-312706.

All functions of the Remote app have been working the last 3 days. Not sure what triggered it to start working as the Android app has not been updated in almost a month.

The last remaining issues I still have are:

1) the home screen shortcuts such as the EV Panel are not sticking, and I have to turn creep mode back on after every drive...when I get back in the car for the next drive Creep is always off.

2) When I press and hold on the home screen and add the EV Panel shortcut (screenshot 1). I then turn Creep (middle button) ON. Everything stays that way until I turn the car off. When I start it back up it looks like screenshot 2. The EV Panel is still there, but the 3 buttons at the bottom are gone, and Creep has been turned off.

My case manager at JLR corporate doesn't know why that's happening but said the best way to document it is to call or show my local service dept and ask them to open a "TA" case with Jaguar so they can document it.

Just helping out.....

FYI I brought the car into service to try to have them fix the EV Panel homepage item issue and they had the car for 2 days and gave it back with it still doing it. Relatively small issue but it's very annoying because there are 2 of us that drive the car and one of us likes High regen (me) and the other HATES it so we're constantly going back and forth between those 2 settings, and this EV Panel shortcut is the only way to have the regen level at the press of one button on the home screen. Since it wont stick, you have to tap 3 times to get into the My EV menu then again to change the regen level. So basically everytime one of us gets in the car we have to do that because there's no quick way to change the regen level.
Can you make it part of your profile with each key? Seems odd if that setting wouldn't stick to the key like other features do.

In theory, yes, but it doesn't work. There's a thread in the UK forums as well talking about this very same problem other people are having as well so it's not just me. I took it in for service just to try to have this resolved and they couldnt fix it so I'm just going to wait for some future update to hopefully fix it.
