Anyone familiar with JLR's interior design language will see a lot of similarities going on here and when you combine that with what's happening in the industry with products like the Tesla Model X, Mercedes S-Class, thoughts of how much we can get from the I-Pace concept come to mind. Fortunately Jaguar didn't go crazy futuristic on us but instead kept it as true to production as they could.

With that being said my first question to the potential owners here is, How much of this can you realistically see coming to production?

I can see them keeping the long infotainment screen and digital gauge, not so much the fancy seat temperature knobs and displays. Honestly, it'll probably look very similar to what we're seeing in the F-Pace but with green back lighting to indicate that it's an electric vehicle.

Jaguar could carry over the digital instrument screen over to the i-Pace, that seems to be a thing with higher end electric vehicles. Mainly looking at what Tesla and BMW is doing.

Really like that steering wheel too. If those three components can stay, I wouldn't mind them ditching the digital climate control system. That whole center console arch is something that is very possible we'll see in the production.

Well we just seen this debut on the new Range Rover Velar, giving more weight to this happening and its very practical. Jaguar didn't go out of their way to design some super futuristic system. Lately they've been keeping concepts a small threshold above what typical for production.

Just wait till you see the system functioning...

The Velar is definitely ultra sleek. The recessed door handles are cool as heck though. Also happy that they maintained knobs for the climate control. Makes like much more easy.

That layout makes more sense to me, seems wasteful to just control the seats with such a large screen and knobs. I'm still expecting the top screen to have all the functions I need via touch, but the bottom screen would be useful if I want to do something else while still having navigation on display.

you hit it on the nail here.
the biggest mistake some car makers do is get rid of vital functions like knobs, physical buttons, things that give us real feedback.

but as self-driving tech improves and systems related to it follows, we might instead have voice commands to control certain functions.

For a lot of things, I'm perfectly fine with them converting it over to a digital touch screen function, but things like controlling the temperature should be left as a knob. Until they can get something that is extremely smooth functioning and accurate at least?

As long as they keep some sort of touch control i'm fine and that could be on the steering wheel, a great win win. They get to clean up the center console and make use of what would otherwise be a boring steering wheel. I might be onto something since its what other car makers are doing.

Mercedes knows...

Integrating the buttons to look like part of a trim is probably the best way to go about it. They nailed the design in that MB. The steering wheel is gorgeous as well in general.

Buttons on the steering wheel are standard these days, but I do prefer knobs in the center console too as it's easier for me to change the temperature incrementally instead of trying to slide around on a touch screen. I know Tesla does it, but I'd prefer to feel a fwe knows here and there.

Buttons on the steering wheel are standard, but how and where they're placed makes all the difference! Am I too picky... probably. But I know what I like and something like this isn't it: old design but you get my point

Thankfully these days JLR has cleaner design. F-Pace is a good example and odds are what we see in the I-Pace won't deviate much away from it:



But at the same time, on the I-Pace concept we got a look at what might be the next iteration:

If there's any part I'm hoping they keep on that steering wheel, it's the start button. I think that's a very exotic-sporty type of feature to have. Always loved seeing it on Ferraris and the Mclarens

Bringing that steering wheel to market as we see it won't be hard at all, just depends on how that fits into Jaguars overall design language and execution with technology.

If not I won't mind some features from the Velar:

Not sure about the steering wheel layout as it's so far from the edge of the wheel and hard for my thumbs to reach. But the touch screens are a very nice touch. Isn't this the concept interior of the new Velar and not production?

The Velar steering wheel is definitely not something I would like at all. The controls don't flow at all and they're essentially just screwed in there making it awkward looking.

Everything about it sounds good and i'm all for change but too bad one thing that will always be on the back of our minds till we get to sit in one is how comfortable it is, then all the in-depth stuff like how it feels, what its like on long drives, wear over time, etc. Lucky for Jag, even if its not as good as its made out to be, the rest of the I-Pace will make up for it.
