I-Pace Competitors

Most of the time a production model is a very watered down version of the concept that was on display and it ends up letting down potential buyers. At least with the I-Pace concept, it doesn't look too far off from what a production model could be. But the Audi electric SUV's front will probably get an overhaul.

So far, the only renderings out there are not from BMW and the designs are still relatively "out there" IMO. I can understand automakers trying to make EV looks more like the regular models as to attract more buyers who does not want to stick out.

If BMW comes out with anything like the i3, I don't have high hopes for that compared to the i-Pace. It may appeal to die hard BMW fans, but for those who doesn't have a brand preference that design may drive them away.

2019 Audi e-tron Sportback is going to be the Jaguar I-Pace's main rival; the rendering looks decent and its two motors has a maximum combined output of 496bhp and 590 lb-ft of torque. That'll give it a 0-62mph time of 4.5sec and a restricted top speed of 131mph. But this is just the concept.

BMW is planning to go toe-to-toe with the I-Pace in 2021 with the iNext electric crossover. They plan to release it with Level 3 autonomy and the concept is interesting. No doubt the production model will look more like the rest of it's i lineup, but 2021 may be a bit too late.

Chevy went with a more pedestrian look with the Bolt because they want to market it as a daily driver just like any other ICE car. But by doing so they made it into a very boring toaster on wheels. As impressive as it's range was for the price, the Bolt was just too pedestrian and hefty looking.

Tesla will definitely be the main competitor, though we'll have to wait and see how many of those pre-order buyers Jaguar can draw away.

Hmmmm with how Porsche prices their vehicles, I doubt I'd go for any of their car especially an electric. But BMW has already been working on performance hybrids and it's going to be a race to dealerships at this point. Jaguar just needs to be first.

The I-Pace is so unique and good looking, even rival designers are talking about it. Fiat Chrysler design boss Ralph Gilles, told Automotive News Canada: "I'm a big fan of [the] I-Pace. It's interesting to see how electrification is bringing a new aesthetic." It's certainly a lot better looking than the other options out there like the Bolt and what Tesla has to offer.
