I got a call from Jaguar buy back team today. The procedure will be easy, and the offer is Oct 2024 KBB value (no number yet). This does not seem to be fair specially now the recall has restricted the charge to 80%. My car has no issues, and I like to keep my car and hope Jaguar can offer something like extended warranty or what. What can we or would you do? Thanks for any information or advice.

Here is the letter:

Dear Xian,

I will be working on your case (case # ) to have your 2019 Jaguar I-Pace repurchased. This correspondence serves as confirmation that Jaguar Land Rover will repurchase your vehicle at the market value of your vehicle from October 2024. Over time vehicles depreciate and utilizing the Kelly Blue Book market value from October 2024 ensures a fair offer for all our customers.

Please provide the following at your earliest convenience so we may begin working on formulating your formal offer:

Information needed:

1. Do you have the vehicle in your possession? If not, please provide the vehicle location:

2. What color is the vehicle?

Required documents:

  1. A copy of the vehicle’s current Registration (If there is a loan)
  2. A copy of the Front and Back of the Title (If no loan)
  3. A copy of the Driver’s License of all titled or registered owners (all 4 corners must be visible)
  4. 10 day payoff from lender, including daily interest/per diem, if applicable
  5. Copy of sales contract, If available
  6. If there is a lender, please provide the full account numbe
After an Offer has been accepted:

  1. A scheduling coordinator will reach out to schedule a date and time for you to turn in the vehicle at the dealership, sign documents and receive funds
Please respond to this email, confirming that you have received this and that you still desire to have your vehicle repurchased.

I am looking forward to working with you. I can be reached at 877-744-4336 ext. 1308, or through email at Michele.Green@morleynet.com .

Thank you

I don’t understand how you think that is fair? H514 was announced in August and you add in previous recalls and you haven’t truly been able to charge about 80(or 72)% in what, a year? Push back on them for gods sake. I know the service manager at JLR San Jose is advising everybody coming in to get their cars inspected to push back(nothing to do with lemon law).

They told my dealer to stop working on the cell(s) replacement after it had been waiting in their shop for 5 months. My emailed response to their offer was to just fix my car with the parts that are at the dealer…no response in 2 weeks.

This all will come to an interest head at some point. If they don't offer enough (let's imagine they stopped servicing, then tried to force owners into a buyback for $1), does this start violating laws and or become coercion? I can see this is a thin line and can become an issue.

Part of the problem will be the different law as in 50 states (sight), and the fact that I am guessing we will not be getting any Federal oversight or assistance about this.

Yes. I got both call and emails. In fact, I got an offer yesterday. Here is my post on Buyback thread:

Just got the offer today. It is $31,732. Mine is a red FE with 57,452 miles and the listing price was close 90k. I bought as a CPO with 4k miles for much less than the listing price. Changed 12v batteries twice under the warrantee. Otherwise, no issues at all. Still love the car. Runs great, feels great, good looking, and all the features, but the range wise, it is outdated, especially that now can only be charged to 80%. Like to keep the car but worried repair cost when something happens. What would you do if you were me?

So, mine has 30k, totally died and is at the dealership. Got the letter offering buyback literally the next day. Contacted Morley, gave them the basic deets, they told me they'd reach out. Checked my VIN on the NTSB site, found it with all its recalls. Hired an attorney. Gave them the deets, and they reached out to Morley. Looked up my VIN again -- it's GONE. Two weeks later Morley came back with a "we're offering KBB price to be fair to all of our owners". Yeah, but, we're in California. Attorney writes back "Are you refusing to follow Lemon Law?" Morley gets back "We will provide you with two offers: one KBB and one under Lemon Law."

My concern is that they will offer KBB price that is reasonable and a Lemon Law amount that is lower, and I'll be on the hook for the attorney fees if I choose to go with the KBB price. Why else would they do 2 offers?

Not surprisingly, they decided not to give me the offers. Even though it was clear that i had an attorney, they now say that we need to work directly with JLR, not Morley. They are going to make this difficult, which only means my attorney will also sue for damages as I'm without a car.

Well, there is a class action lawsuit now, and for me, I know they are doing to slow roll the process. May go after damages as i am without a car, AND the delay means that I'll be paying more due to tariffs.

By the way, do be aware that JLR is certainly monitoring this site... not that we care, but still.

My wife accepted JLR's buy back offer about 35 days ago. We thought it was a very fair offer. Now the date is set to drop the car off at the dealer and sign over the vehicle to them. All in all, a very smooth transaction and I must say JLR treated us with upmost respect and professionalism.
