I don’t have any specific information but a service department advisor at my dealership yesterday told me they have had two customers come in and pick up a new IPace as a result of the buyback program. The dealer representative mentioned that the customers he has talked to that have participated in the buyback have said they were surprised and very happy st their offers, he didn’t know any specifics.
I also spoke directly today with a Jaguar representative today that told me the buyback is in progress and is supposed to be completed by mid January.

David, interesting info - Where in the US are you?

My dealer is not honoring the buy back I guess. They just say they haven’t received that notice (w three options) and that this temporary fix is all for now until they come out with a permanent fix. What should I do? They are acting like there is no buy back program!

The dealer service person I originally purchased my car from in Los Angeles was also unaware. I have even spoke with the initial contact folks at Jaguar that didn’t know about the process until I educated them and they confirmed with their manager

Thank you for the info. I do hope the end result is a positive one. Having spent 17 years in the automotive business, I didn’t expect to be irritated by this as I have participated in lemon law cases. Thus, realizing how slow this process can be. However, the impact on traveling due to range is starting to wear on me.

The buyback is not managed by the dealer, so they may not be well informed above what someone who sells a a product may need or want to know. The Process will be between you and JLR. Remember a dealer is not JLR, they are a franchise to sell and service cars, not act as representatives for JLR In legal matters

Yes, you most likely would. Class Action really is a last resort because the only people who really get paid are the lawyers, although you can feel good that it will cost Jaguar a crap ton more money. I called customer service again on Friday and got two different stories. The first was that the NHTSA shouldn't have said there was a buyback because there is not. This could just be gamesmanship because I called back right after that and the person told me there would be someone contacting me. For the record, I was supposed to be one of the first cases for buyback. My file was submitted day one. I had already had the update on my car to restrict charging. IT's been two weeks since customer service told me the special group would reach out to me and not a peep. They honestly have the worst customer service I have ever seen. I think the thing to do if they keep dragging this out is actually to get a national news outlet story published. FOr a company that wants to go all electric in the middle of a crappy new brand roll out, I think they wouldn't want the additional bad press of 2800 people sharing how they have been treated.
I really can’t understand, this is a full on LG problem. Why Is JLR and the others not getting LG sorted? I don’t have a problem but still concerned that I will have the same as all of you. Car now 5 1/2 years old.

Sure! We’ve seen how long this plays out between LGES and GM, Hyundai… and of course LGES will be hiding behind its supply contract terms with each of the vehicle OEMs. LGES seem to be buying (wasting) time by developing detection software, where it seems pretty obvious that the only real fix is to replace battery packs…once they are finally producing battery packs that are free of the manufacturing defect. It’s probable that JLR legal action will be needed to get LGES to step up and replace all battery packs, this could take years! In the meantime LGES offer only a drip feed case-by-case.

We have spent a lot on LG goods over the years, but I may be done with them.
I have purchased 2 LG tvs in the last 5 years, both developed vertical or horizontal lines in them. Last month I bought a Sony. I’ll never buy anything from LG. Not because of their bad tv performance, but because of this battery fiasco. Furthermore, I refuse to buy any EV that has a battery that has anything to do with them. I know they don’t care, but I do.

Are you saying that Sony don’t use LG screens on their OLED TV’s?
No. Your comment made me goggle who makes OLED screens and as you said LG does. My comment was crap, I didn’t know that. Appreciate the info. Hopefully LG didn’t make as much money off of me as if I bought their tv. And I’m having a hard time finding a replacement EV that doesn’t use their batteries.

Well crap, kind of like most EV’s seem to use their batteries also
This is probably a consequence of the modern consumer society we live in. Items are not manufactured to last, and are regulatly replaced by the next generation/version that have marginal improvements in the basic function of the item.

In such an environment quality control in the manufacturing is less important since replacement is an accepted solution to an issue.

It would be difficult to boycott LG products, and probably insignificant if all affected EV owners in the US adopted this approach. So it probably reduces to "does it personally make you feel better to speak out, boycot LG or JLR, or post on a forum?"

[BTW We own LG fridge, dishwasher (failed during warranty), oven, and stovetop, LG derived Sony TV, and probably a few other items. Am I loyal to LG - NO! Will I buy replacements maybe, but it will be based on the best quality available at that time, as will my next EV once my current 2024 I-Pace needs replacing]

Comment much appreciated. Tesla should be OK. My daughter has one now for three years. Don’t think Tesla uses that type of cell. Good luck.
