Here's this weeks' installment of I-PACE recalls.

Certain 2019-2020 vehicles with battery packs manufactured between March 1 2018 and May 31st 2018 are now being recalled. There is no corrective action yet, as naturally JLR doesn't have their stuff together on this front. They are just asking owners to not charge above 75%, and to park away from structures. Apparently they have identified via the H441 recall that these battery packs are much more likely to have manufacturing defects which lead to fires.

2019 - 2020 model year I-PACE vehicles as below may be affected: SADHA2A11K1F60746 to SADHA2B10L1F76789* * Specific vehicles within the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) range

3/14 update: H484v3 bulletin issues on the 12th of March adds a line ‘that for affected VINs no battery cells are to be replaced at this time.’

See attached bulletin and Q&A doc. Note that they pushed out v1 late last week, and quickly updated it with a v2.

I think it's safe to assume that battery cell quality follows a distribution. The worst cells will fail first, then the not-quite-as-bad ones, etc. So, as a function of time, miles, and accumulated stressors (like DCFC or extreme temps), cells will continue to fail. It's just math ... and chemistry.

Those of us who haven't had a bad cell yet may get one soon, or we may be able to beat the odds by being nice to the battery ... e.g., low miles, no stressors.

My first one had two failed modules after 8 months and barely 5,000 miles; my current one is four years old, has 36,000 miles, but has been exposed to less stress. Regardless, the first one lost the lottery by having worse cells, while this one ... well, is holding up for now.

Interim owner notification letter for US market. Other markets will probably have similar wording.

Thanks for sharing. This is great news. New battery, no wiggle room, no nonsense. Buyback off the table, not that I cared about that.

I have just bought an early 2019 IPace with 92k miles on the clock. It was very good value and in good condition with full jaguar service history. It is no longer under warranty. Battery seems very good: averaging around 235 miles range.

My VIN number is bang in the middle of the "infected" range. I have checked on TOPIx (and the Jaguar service history) and there does not seem to be any recall notices for the car.

So am I right in saying I just hold tight for now? Is it possible to check what previous work has been undertaken under warranty/recall? I am sightly concerned that a recall notice might have been issued to the previous owner but then I guess that would still show up in TOPIx(?).

By the way, it is very reassuring that this community exists. I have ordered the Bluetooth battery checkers and an going through the maintenance tips posted. I will probably preemptively change both 12v batteries for peace of mind. Thanks all!

Just got the Informed Delivery email from the PO; my letter is coming today.
I am checking in today to see if anyone else has received anything as I haven't gotten my notice yet, so thanks for posting this.

If you run your vin thru TOPiX and nothing comes up your car is not affected. This thread goes through it ad nauseam. The PDF files posted here document that only certain vehicles were affected and it is not sequential. The notifications refer to "certain" vehicles and "specific vehicles" within the vehicle range they have identified. It depends on the specific time frame when the battery was manufactured, which they have also identified. That is pretty much it.

I have unanswered questions about the process for this and the dealer hasn't really been insightful other than telling me to wait. When I had the module failure the open service ticket placed my car in a queue for a repair/solution, which makes sense. For this issue there isn't an open ticket currently and so I don't believe I am in any sort of queue so I'm not clear on how this is going to work in terms of how/where batteries are directed or in what order they will be disseminated when they become available.

Anyone have thoughts about if we can come by this information?

Received my H484 letter on April 30th. It is identical to the letter Ayepace posted earlier. Basically you can call all you want, but there is still a waiting game since JLR is awaiting parts before they call those affected. My take has been early on that if you do not have patience this is not the car for you. Remember how often we know more than the service writers at the dealerships.

I agree. I am willing to wait, I've said it a lot here and I waited two months for the module replacement. My car is working perfectly after the latest warranty repair so at least I have it in my possession and I can enjoy it while I wait. I am just curious about the process and interested in the logistics.

I was passing by my dealership this morning and decided to stop and talk to someone instead of calling them about H484. They told me they still have no idea nor clear direction from JLR, and JLR is still questioning themself about what to do, and they can step back on the battery replacement option ???
They also told me that H441 is mandatory for H484, and they could do it on the spot within 30 min without appointment. Last time I try to get it the car stood in the parking lot of the dealership for 4 days without moving and they never touched it despite my appointment for H441.. :) I collected it back because I needed the car for the weekend.
I told them that H441 is a waist of time at this point since I can limit myself to 75% of charge and if the software detects a bad cell they won’t replace it because of H484, but he insisted…. So I am in the waiting room for 30min. At least I will be able to rescan the BECM module to detect the new PID exposed by H441.

IT was definitely quieter at the dealer when I went last week for the AC (although they were short of loaners). Maybe it is a slow time without seasonal tire changes.

H441 installed ticks the box but unless you charge to 100% a few times no cells will identify. Sticking to 75% gives better range rather than locking out at 72%. H484 battery replacement process will not get started unless H441 is installed. So you have done everything required as per H484. Hope you get a new battery sooner than later.

Are you saying this because of the flag near my name. If yes, it is simply because I am on roaming plan 365/year on my cell. When I am on a local Wifi I have a canadian flag, when I am on my cell data, I am located by the forum in France.

Today I decided to call the JLR Customer Relationship Center because I want to know if the H484 battery replacement will restart the clock on the 8 year battery warranty or if it will still adhere to the original date the car was put into service. Despite asking for my VIN number at the start of the call, it was as if the agent had no idea what I was talking about. She then informed me there was an open recall on my car! Yeah, that’s why I called. She said she would have to open a case. I asked why since my car was identified the H484 recall letter. She replied so we could discuss options. What options, like a buyback? “Perhaps”, she said, “is that something you’d be interested in?” She then said she had to escalate the case to her supervisor to understand the options and would call me back.

I honestly don’t know how to feel about this exchange. I asked what would have happened if I hadn’t called and she hadn’t “created a case”? She said the recall would have just gone through the retailer. Considering retailers seem to have less information than this forum, I suggest everyone under the H484 recall call the Customer Relationship Center.

It has been 9 days since I received my letter indicating parts not available and that JLR will call to find out which dealer I want them to send the new battery pack. I am willing to give them more time to sort out this recall. The warranty question is a good one, but again that too will be answered. There has probably been a precedent or maybe even a law that dictates the warranty time of the new battery. Now with that being said, I can assure you I do not possess 5 1/2 months of patience like "rcomeau".
@Vinsuz : If the supervisor fails to call you it is because he does not have any answers just like the lady at the help desk.

More precisely, making 100% of your batteries last a long time is difficult.

That said, I doubt there are many, if any, products where 100% of the items maunfactured last beyond the guarantee period. Just the nature of statistics and engineering tolerances.

Monday I took my car in for my 2nd replacement of my Aux battery (at 11 volts), orange grease being thrown out of my new rear CV Joint, another new electronic key(my 5th) and a passenger air bag fault. I figured they would fix some stuff, order the parts and give the car back Monday evening. Wattcat showed the car outside Monday night. Tuesday at lunch I get a text that my car is 150 miles away getting my traction battery fixed (Cell or whole battery, I don't know). I looked at Wattcat and it is in another dealers back lot all day today. My dealer has no idea as to when they will work on the traction battery and will not give me a loaner. Jag has told me they may reimbursme for $45 a day for a rental. Yesterday I owned a Jaguar I-Pace, it appears to have been taken from me!

I have no idea about why my car was taken to another dealership. My current dealership installed H441 in my car without updating their Topix equipment first. This has left a message on Topix that I do not have H441 installed even though I am limited to 72% charge and prevents me from seeing any other messages about my car on Topix. I thought there was a current freeze on battery cell replacements, so why would a dealer be taking a car to another dealer for battery work unless it is a new recall?? Is anyone else getting cells replaced in the last month? I have never received a letter from Jaguar in my 4y & 7 months of ownership.
