H484v2 - I-PACE Traction Battery Thermal Overload - Elevated Risk

Here's this weeks' installment of I-PACE recalls.

Certain 2019-2020 vehicles with battery packs manufactured between March 1 2018 and May 31st 2018 are now being recalled. There is no corrective action yet, as naturally JLR doesn't have their stuff together on this front. They are just asking owners to not charge above 75%, and to park away from structures. Apparently they have identified via the H441 recall that these battery packs are much more likely to have manufacturing defects which lead to fires.

2019 - 2020 model year I-PACE vehicles as below may be affected: SADHA2A11K1F60746 to SADHA2B10L1F76789* * Specific vehicles within the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) range

3/14 update: H484v3 bulletin issues on the 12th of March adds a line ‘that for affected VINs no battery cells are to be replaced at this time.’

See attached bulletin and Q&A doc. Note that they pushed out v1 late last week, and quickly updated it with a v2.

I, too, am a Canadian owner with a Vin number in the middle of the H484 recall list. I have been attempting to get current information from Jaguar UK. dealer, but neither is in communication with the other and neither has any news beyond what has been discussed on this forum.
when I called JLR I was told that my Vin number, indicating a pending service for the traction battery fault, and that I should call my dealer to have the work done. I called my dealer and was told that there was no such notice of a fix either hardware or software. They both cannot be correct, but this is the reality we face.
I genuinely enjoy my pace, and hoped to keep it for years. My ambition has not changed which is why I hope we all get the offer of an entire new compliant battery pack. It seems to me that is the only reasonable result however, the accountants at JLR will probably recommend otherwise.

Have you checked TOPIx to see if your VIN is listed? Home | TOPIx

if it is listed JLR will contact you when they have decided what they are doing. If not your are clear no action required.

In the US you can sign up to get an email from the postal service every morning with images of the mail you will receive that day. I’ve been on the lookout for my letter from JLR for about a week now!

I think we should come up with some award for the first member who posts their (redacted) letter!!

It would be nice to know the degree of panic you should consider when your VIN falls into he roulette wheel or these recalls. A bit like the 10% chance of rain or 80% chance of rain. I understand the legalese of "abundance of caution" but the whole H441 fiasco and issues I had with getting the range (not the charging percentage) back into normal before it all went mad made me wonder why I really bothered, for maybe a finitely small risk ?

I
I can understand that. Masochist that I am, I would still want to keep the car )
Many of us are hitting the age where even for a good car, it might be time to start thinking about what comes next. How long were you thinking of keeping it? Mine hits 5 this June, which is probably my average. Not sure I want to see it in its older years given how its first 5 years have been.

Holy Cow! There is no wiggle room with this wording: "Affected vehicles will require a complete EV battery replacement." This is amazing news from my perspective.

Less amazing though, "A repair bulletin will be published when complete repair information is available. Target publication and parts availability are TBA."

H484R4 and Tech report issued yesterday still shows buy back. Battery replacement and BECM as well as new sound proofing foam.

The document in your post appears to be from a JLR customer service website whereas the H484v4 document posted by Topdown500 was dated 4/15.

My wife will be much more disappointed if the buyback is off the table than I will, but it is her car and she’s the one who’s been stranded twice.

I think batteries outside the range of H484 will still have cell failures meaning module changes. The batteries where VINs are called up on H484 are likely to have more of them which increases the risk. If VINs outside the range start to have multiple modules changes they may get added.

That would be the most painful scenario. I dread the thought of the next year having to go back for module replacements more than once (more than so far) and only after we have suffered, the offer a replacement battery. That and loosing whatever resale value is left if all I-Paces are cursed with perpetual battery problems.

As of yesterday I no longer have my Photon Red I Pace Limited Edition since all is back to the 100% Photon Red First Edition. Module #8 was the culprit. The tech that worked on it knows I will be getting a H484 letter probably this week and that our paths will cross again in the future. He was puzzled like me that my car is listed in the Bat Pack H484 club since the battery pack was manufactured 2 weeks after the cut off date of May 31, 2018. The I Pace is a lot of things, but never boring.

My car just went in to the dealer for a dead water pump, posted that issue earlier today in a fresh thread.

They ran my VIN and are aware my car is caught up in the H484 recall. First they said they would do a software update but when I asked about the content of the recall notice - full HV battery replacement - the messaging changed slightly. It sounds like my car is now in a queue and we are waiting for information on availability of a new battery, which is out of JLR's hands. I'll get the car back and I'll presumably get a call when the time comes. It is wait and see what happens situation with no timelines.

I started to say wait, a water pump? In an EV? Then I realized not all water pumps have to be belt-driven!

Electric pumps for water, oil, and transmission fluid can keep fluids circulating for an ICE during the stop phase of start/stop tech. This keeps everything cooled and lubricated, avoids pressure fluctuations, and improves fuel efficiency.

Modern belt driven alternators also "disengage" whenever possible to reduce power draw from the engine to improve fuel efficiency. They'll re-engage during coasting/braking or when the battery really needs charging.

My car is back from service. Per the paperwork they performed "HV updates to HV module," whatever that means.

When I picked up the car they advised I have to wait to hear from Jaguar and/or wait for a call to come in for the battery replacement presumably when they get the part and presumably this call will come from the dealer. They didn't say if I'm now in a queue and I don't believe there is an 'open service ticket' for me like previously when the module went.

I have been advised to keep charging to 75% and wait for news.

what have others been hearing?

October 2023 get Traction battery fault alarm.
November 2023 At Dealer for them to verify I really have a Traction Battery Fault alarm.
March 2024 I went in to get my drivers side axle oil seal replaced. They replaced my CV joint & the leaking seal. They also did an update to my BECS 441 software and then appeared to realize I was not on any kind paperwork to get a new battery cell. They did testing and found that cell 16 was the problem cell and they said they have ordered my car a new cell & sealer.
Appointment for May 2024 Replaced oil seal not leaking(that's good), but new CV boot is throwing yellow grease in the wheelwell under the car. I need a new key again & my passenger seat says the airbag 2 is not on.
Still no word on a new cell.
Did I mention that all requests for service at my local dealer, require a 30 day wait.

@Trielectric Something sounds off about the timing of the module. My module was ordered February 23, 2024 and was delivered March 14, 2024 ( 3 weeks). If your car is part of the 258 H484 recall according to my tech all module repairs for those under the H484 recall have now stopped. I just barely slipped in since I am part of the 258. However, a module repair might not work like in my case after 4 days of 100%, I returned back to the 72%.
