Monday I took my car in for my 2nd replacement of my Aux battery (at 11 volts), orange grease being thrown out of my new rear CV Joint, another new electronic key(my 5th) and a passenger air bag fault. I figured they would fix some stuff, order the parts and give the car back Monday evening. Wattcat showed the car outside Monday night. Tuesday at lunch I get a text that my car is 150 miles away getting my traction battery fixed (Cell or whole battery, I don't know). I looked at Wattcat and it is in another dealers back lot all day today. My dealer has no idea as to when they will work on the traction battery and will not give me a loaner. Jag has told me they may reimbursme for $45 a day for a rental. Yesterday I owned a Jaguar I-Pace, it appears to have been taken from me!

Just confirming this is for the faulty modules you posted about earlier and NOT for the H484 recall, correct? You should have received a letter if your kitty falls under the H484 recall (whole battery replacement).

I have no idea about why my car was taken to another dealership. My current dealership installed H441 in my car without updating their Topix equipment first. This has left a message on Topix that I do not have H441 installed even though I am limited to 72% charge and prevents me from seeing any other messages about my car on Topix. I thought there was a current freeze on battery cell replacements, so why would a dealer be taking a car to another dealer for battery work unless it is a new recall?? Is anyone else getting cells replaced in the last month? I have never received a letter from Jaguar in my 4y & 7 months of ownership.

They are replacing modules for cars not covered by the more recent recall where these selected cars are not getting individual modules replaced, but eventually will get the whole battery [pack replaced (or maybe offered buyback option). Maybe the other dealer had an EV tech available for the job now as opposed to having to wait at your dealer? It takes 3 people to do the battery work, one being the guy with the rope around the waist of the other guys to pull them free if they get a shock.

It has been announced that a settlement to a class action lawsuit by Chevy Bolt owners, affected by the LG battery issue, will get compensation up to $1400. This may be why a firm resolution has not been announced by Jaguar. They could be contemplating similar compensation, or something else, to avoid litigation.

Or Jaguar owners may need a class action suit of their own.

The only winners in a class action lawsuit are the lawyers....

Wow, I actually got a response from the JLR Customer Service Center:

“I hope this email finds you well. At this time, the batteries are still in the process of being made. Once they are completed and we receive a date with an ETA, I will reach out with that update. As of now, we do not have a specific target date, and we are being advised it will be measured in months, not weeks or days. Please be assured that I will keep you updated accordingly. Thank you for your time and continued patience.”

Better than nothing I suppose. My biggest takeaway is despite the rep originally asking if a buyback is something I’d consider, to which I did not directly answer, it seems no offer is forthcoming (unless I raise a stink perhaps).

Strange that I also got an email from the Liason at JaguarUSA, it says NOT all the parts needed, are present with my car at this time and was given a case #:
"We sincerely apologize the added delay this will cause but I assure you we are tracking this to be sure everything is shipped as quickly as possible."
I am still unsure if I am getting a cell, or a battery, or a dead car back!

Dealer called me today to say that they have ordered a new battery + parts for my 🐈‍⬛ but don’t have any ETA yet. Progress.

Meanwhile the Norwegians are firing guns through EVs to see what happens. Quite entertaining.

I got a call today from Jaguar Customer Relations. My 2019MY HSE is impacted by the battery replacement of H484. No letter yet in the mail. She offered me three options to consider:
1/ Have battery replaced entirely at JLR expense. Existing battery warranty would run from in-service date (so no additional eight years). No ETA for battery - in her words "could be months"
2/ JLR make an offer to buy back the car. Based on current market value and only once finance paid off. Of course we know the value has dropped like a lead battery so likely break even at best.
3/ Swap vehicle out for I assume a later model year of similar or greater spec, not part of the battery issue. Interestingly she wanted to know how many keys I have.
Told her 3,1,2 in order. She annotated my case and said she will be reaching out again once more definite information is available

I got a call as well, just to clarify on 3 I was informed that it had to be a new car, not a used car. So there was no way to trade for a 2022 which would be more at cost parity.

On number two they were also unable to clarify if it would be the trade in value taking into account the new battery or not.

I also asked about just having the buyback be the cost of the battery which Jaguar has documented as $38,350. However they have since taken that down.

Interesting. Some in the UK have actually swapped into a used CPO a few years later or been offered an upsell to brand new.

As the new battery doesn’t reset the eight year warranty, I don’t think that they are factoring that in. I was told usual trade in sources lik KBB and regional variants. Which as we all know are pants

Exactly, that’s why I asked about the cost of the battery as the trade in value as well.

I figured Jaguar will take the least expensive option to them if allowed to. They were pushing very hard for the trade in/new model.

Well the cheapest option for them is get us to wait for the battery replacement as I suspect LG will be footing some of the bill. But I appreciate Jaguar trying to think outside of the box for a comparatively small number of people maybe compared to other manufacturers like Audi etc who also have the same battery issue.

I would assume that LG is footing the bill regardless of what option is taken, or there to be a cost equivalency between them as paid by LG.

Something like LG foots cost of battery and labor either in dollars and/or in parts.

Because I would assume regardless of if an owner goes through with a buyback or not the battery will be replaced by LG. The only difference would be in Jaguar will sell the car at a profit from the buyback/trade in. I assume it will be fixed regardless.

It’s is a $150 million fund; 40% is $60 million! Not bad for a slam dunk.
I work in the EV Industry and am pissed at Jaguar. My 2019 i-Pace has been in the shop 7 months out of the 12 I've had it, there isn't a repair for this second recall, they finally called and offered to buy it back, or let me trade or allow the to repair when parts were ready... which is going to end up costing them more than the vehicle is worth now. They've already spent $28,700 trying to repair it. You'd think they'd just give me what I purchased it for to make up for the time Ive had to pick up major players in the industry in a gas vehicle, not to mention having to drive all the way through AZ, NM and West Texas on the hottest days of the year with no a/c last year when they accidentally pushed a software update OTA to my vehicle that wasn't supposed to hit the 2019 models. I nearly died. When I told them they could purchase it back for my original purchase price, I haven't heard back from them for over a week again. It's so frustrating. They just seeded $1B in to a start up company in London last week, they can buy back our i-Paces. I'm about to use my platform in the industry to tell them exactly how I feel which I am sure would not be desirable for them... but then, there is only more of a wasting of my time. And I want to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, not give it more negative publicity, but this is getting ridiculous. I think a $60M fund split between those of us with the First Edition 2019, if those are the only ones being affected, might could be worth the time.
