Had to take my car in for a traction battery fault about a week ago. I was literally just about to start the paperwork to buy my car and now I'm hesitant because it's frustrating that it's been in the shop.

I have been in constant communication with the service person and they let me know some interesting info, not sure if it's just them covering their ass or whatever.

As follows: they stated they finally received word from their technical team and apparently, there is another software in the works for the specific issue with my car (is it really specifically just my car?). That software is expected in mid-September. I was offered to take my car back but was told that the car will not (cannot or shouldn't be, not sure) charge above 80%, and it needs to be parked outside until the issue is resolved, which sounds like there's a risk of it going up in flames, until the new new software update around second week of September.

Sigh

There is a 2nd round of software updates scheduled for September (as I was told by a JLR technical guy through their customer service group). Not sure if this is for everyone or just those that the current update has flagged.

Sounds like the H441 software has flagged a "potential" problem with your battery. Whether it is going to spontaneously burst into flames in the coming weeks is another issue. Comparing the number of folks on these forums that the H441 update has alerted to a potential problem with the number of actual fires to date, I would suspect the update is being very conservative and highlighting cars with a possibility of a fire, rather than predicting a battery fire.

Yup, I'm assuming that's what the next update is based on the service representative I spoke with today. So for the time being I'm going to be finalizing the paperwork to make the car mine officially, so I'm very excited but bummed by the issue. I'm sure it'll be fine afterwards though. Just hope it's not a situation of being permanently stuck with 80% battery

I'm also feeling like the update is being as cautious as possible, I'm just anxious because it'll be my first car, so I'm excited and I feel like this is quite a damper on the situation.

For now I was lucky enough to get a loaner, and boy am I not good with gas cars anymore!

I haven’t called the dealer for the H441 appointment. Maybe I should wait mid September for the V2.0 version ? Anyway I need my car for a couple of journeys in the coming weeks so I am not in a hurry for it.

Version 3 of US recall. Says there is an update to the note about parking away from structures. The paragraph beginning "In line with..." is changed.
Thank you. For those of us that had H441 installed prior to v3 do you have any information on whether getting v3 is required/advised/preferable/etc.?

It only looks like they've issued a third version of the document at this time. No word about revised software.

I had my H441 update installed this week. It took two attempts as the first time the software wouldn't install for the dealer. "Failed to update the Module" error message. I did have a low secondary battery (the brake pedal feel light had come on over the weekend). They replaced that and still no luck so a Ticket was created. Back in 2 days and the install went smoothly. I was in and out of the shop in 50 minutes. The shop in Richfield MN was very good to work with and I will go back there for sure.

I also charged last night, level 2 home charge at 32 amps. My Pepe (a vey stubborn mule) went from 48% to 100% with just some variability early in the session. And I have the highest range prediction to ever at 265 miles (ambient temp 45 F this morning). I'm optimistic that the 100% charge outcome will hold up and I'll avoid the battery issues.

Here is the log from WattCat. Interesting what difference the scale makes in perception on the early variance

It takes 30-40 days for any battery module(s) to respond to the H441 software.

Thanks for the post. It's interesting how (and where) the charge rate dropped around the 70% mark.

And you've passed the first hurdle. It's true that it takes a month for the battery to be totally analyzed... but a lot of people get the warning on the way home from the dealer. At least you're beyond that.

Mine has been at the dealer for 2 months. I could sign a waiver and take it, but the only parking spots away from my vehicle are under trees in the middle of a national park, so…

Waivers are an option? That's great to hear ... I'd sign a waiver in a heartbeat and keep SoC between 20 and 70% ...

Why has the dealer had it for two months? Are they awaiting new battery cells? Did they give you an ETA?

It was flagged to get new batteries, but then Jaguar national said they wanted to do another software update and said they would need to wait. Before that the delay was for “parts availability.” There is no ETA because Jaguar has no fix for this.

I’ve been reading quite a bit about this issue, there was an Electrek article in 2022 that claimed they would have these issues due to problems at the LG plant that also affected the Hyundai group cars and the Chevy Volt. At first, Jaguar was blaming dealers for not installing the h441 update correctly, but now it looks like they are trying to avoid battery replacements.

Even with a limit to 70% of charging capacity, which I agree would be fine while they find a fix, Jaguar recommends parking the car away from your residence. I live inside Grand Canyon National Park. Away from my building are only parking spaces with trees. I do not think any of us want to be responsible for burning the forest along the rim at the park. So, I am driving a Discovery Sport.

Speaking of Chevrolet, they sure put JLR to shame with the fix for these LG batteries. A friend of mine with a fairly-new Bolt was offered a replacement car (one MY newer) which he opted for in lieu of the replacement battery.

My sister has had her Bolt locked at 80% for over a year. They got a recent software upgrade that will monitor the battery and if no errors come up in 10k km, the battery will be declared ok and stye will get the 100% range back. Nothing else has been offered for having 80% for over a year.

Enhanced software was expected to be released back on October 9 for MY20- and early November for MY21+.

Another interesting doc is from a shop foreman conference call.

Interesting documents (though crammed with acronyms!) particularly as my car was dropped off at the dealer last Monday with the Traction Battery Fault and I’m awaiting news.

It appears from the document that the dealer may (is not mandated) to hold onto the car until the parts arrive and the repair is carried out. Yet it seems that many owners are left without their car for weeks/months.

My dealer verified I had the Traction Battery Fault alarm, then told me they had filed a report with Jaguar and were waiting for a reply . Gave me back my Key and told me to watch my charging. The newest info states December 15, 2023 is when Jaguar will be sending out info for the newest software.
