Yes it is the fob battery.

Buried in workshop manual I came across a description of the fob saying it has 2 batteries. One is replaceable. The other is an internal battery (probably a capacitor like my solar watches have). The internal one gets recharged from the replaceable one.

It appears that if the replaceable one is weak, it won't charge the internal one enough but still has enough power to signal unlocking. The internal one drives the fob recognition/location logic.

It would be nice if Jaguar would issue an update to give us a weak battery warning like the owners manual claims. My old 96 Disco was better than this. So is my 16 Range Rover.

Thank you. Amazon says same day delivery on the batteries so I will update once they are received. I appreciate your continued technical expertise. You have been so MUCH MORE informative than the people at my dealership its astounding. Thank you again.

What a crazy narrative. Our I-pace took the recall like a champ. I have yet to receive any official communication about this recall except that it was completed when we picked up the car for an unrelated service. I knew about it thanks to this forum and mostly followed the recommendations. It has been more than 30 days since the update was done. At no point was I informed of any restrictions. Fortunately the car has been so close to the way it was before the update maybe a keen observer might notice a difference (and those might be normal variations that were the same as the last 3 years).

Batteries arrived and installed. Everything appears resolved. Coincidences bother me but there is no denying that they occur.

Silly question. Was Amazon necessary for a CR2032? Walmart, any automotive or battery store?

Not silly. Walmart near me had them listed but only as an online item. I do check before I go. Amazon said <4hr to deliver and was cheaper than other listings - so why not? Got enough to do all 3 fobs and my wife’s 2 for her Volvo as well.

I'm a dinosaur - a quick trip into town, 30mins max. Local battery supply store has anything you need. Problem solved before we get a chance to post.🙂

To each their own. I prefer 6 for $10 rather than $2.49 each. I love to drive but not to pay 50% more.

Glad it’s sorted OK. Though your concept of coincidence is very strange. Just because coincidence happens it does not equate to correlation. You would obviously not intend it this way, but people could read your first post and incorrectly conclude “H441 battery update kills key fobs”.

Yes, very strange. The Chicago Cubs haven't lost since this poster had his software updated. JLR must be messing with the very fabric of the universe.🙂

Thank you for the elementary lesson. The implication was that the software was screwed up that interfaces with the fob signals. Thank you though and have a wonderful day.

I’m delighted to be of service in correcting your illogical interpretation. ;)

Joking aside your post was quite clear you thought it was the battery and not the update. My post was sarcastic and I should have stated that more clearly.

I received the letter yesterday.

My car is still at the body shop awaiting installation of the replacement lift gate.

I got my letter last week. Dealer had already completed the update. Did need to bring the car in to complete it.

I received the notice yesterday, called my Jaguar’s service store and had to leave a detailed message. Nobody called me back, so I’ll try again tomorrow. I live two hours drive away and am nervous about the drive down.
