Finally got the dreaded "traction battery fault" error today

2019 First Edition w/ 20k miles. Wouldn't start or go into drive after several tries. Waited a minute and then it started with the error -- drove straight to the dealership, which was luckily only a couple miles down the road.

I'm hoping it's just the starter/aux battery and not something more serious. And yes, it's in the serial number range with the potential wiring harness issue.

The downside is that the dealership needs to get an I-Pace certified tech to come work on it, and since they don't exactly grow on trees it'll likely be sitting for several days at least. That seems to be the biggest issue with this car... few able to work on it. Parts are a real hoot, too, but it's a Jag so it's always a double edged sword. :)

glad it happened while you were at home and the dealer was available!

it's the 'starter' battery. The aux battery dies with the reduced brake pedal message...I'm awaiting my replacement tomorrow :)
Nice! So they aren’t going to fix the wiring harness? I wasn’t sure if dealers are recommending it be fixed anyways for vehiclew in the vin range
@Slam08, In US harness replacement requires an actual failure. Some other countries had a recall that required replacement whether failed or not.

They have to follow a very specific testing procedure for both 12V batteries before either will be replaced under warranty. Both of mine were tested back in February when the aux battery failed and only the aux battery was replaced.

After my Starter battery failed, the dealer ordered a new one. I continued to drive my car with a small LIP battery to jump the car, to get it running. After 5 days my Aux battery also failed. I could still jump the car with a big battery and drive it around, including driving it to the dealer to get both batteries replaced once they had both come in. After This I pushed the dealer to look at the TCU battery which WattCat told me was also bad. It took another week for the dealer to get a new TCU battery(an original size Tesla round traction battery). I am convinced the failed Starter battery pulled down the Aux battery (which is what I wanted!).
Ive spent so much time thinking/worrying about the aux battery dying that I never really thought about the starter battery. This might sound stupid but what would be a good way to tell the difference? I finally got the dreaded pedal feel reduced errors on Saturday and just replaced my aux battery myself tonight and everything is back to normal but now Im paranoid that my starter is going to kill my aux and put me back at square 1. My headlights, infotainment, door handles, etc worked fine when the errors popped up and the car wouldnt start so I figured it wasnt the starter because Im assuming thats all ran off the starter like any normal car.
change your starter too, for peace of mind. that's what I did just a couple weeks ago ...

Lesson: If you wait 8 days to replace the AUX battery then the AUX battery dies totally and you are getting towed to the dealer... I'm awaiting the tow truck. Now if Jaguar had customer service then they would dispatch 'someone' from the dealer to take the battery (that was ordered a week ago) to my house and fit it... but since it is just a hand off from the dealer to Jaguar assist (as you have now broken down) that isn't possible...
And people wonder why everyone hates the dealer system...

Took it to AutoZone to have it checked and the test says it's still healthy so peace of mind restored!

The dealership hasn't gotten back to me yet but I'm able to see them actively working on it via the app. They drove it several times, did a full charge and sadly it's showing a mere 156 miles at 96%.

A couple weeks prior to dropping it off I noticed some strangely wild fluctuations in terms of range that I wrote off as potentially Guess O Meter doing it's thing and getting it quite wrong, but it was more unusual than normal.

Would not be shocked if they told me it needs a new pack or cells replaced. If that ends up being the case, getting the CPO warranty was the smartest thing in the world since I bought it off lease just 7 months ago.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that it's just an aux or starter battery or maybe wiring harness issue combined with glitchy software...

I knew about the aux battery throwing a similar fault, so when the fault happened I immediately drove it to the dealership. Fortunately I was just a few miles away when it happened. Definitely didn't want to risk having to wait on Jaguar to get back to me about next steps or worse, getting it towed on a flatbed.

My understanding is that they won't fix it until after it fails.
Dealer said the aux battery was dead and double confirmed it, so replaced for free under warranty. They said the starter battery was fine despite it being 3+ years old and did not recommend replacement.

They did not perform any tests on the traction battery. Seems their troubleshooting methodology is starter battery, then aux battery, then if still issues they'll look at traction battery.

The GoM showed 156 miles @ 96% charge when I picked up the car and actually went up slightly on my 10 mile drive home, so it appears to be confused. Dealership said "it's the algorithm" and it'll sort itself out. This is not a dealership that likes to "dig deep" or "go above and beyond" to give the customer peace of mind... but I can't blame them considering how many cars they are constantly trying to work on. Credit where it's due that they let me drop the vehicle off unannounced and had it back to me in like 4 business days.

Fingers crossed that the GoM returns to normal and the car doesn't give me any more trouble.

I would manually reset the GoM and see where it averages out at the end of the week

Mine was the same - your other battery is fine (they even tested it overnight) - so just the AUX replaced under warranty.
