Far passenger vent still "on" with smart climate?

Hi, I've noticed when I'm the only one in the car that the dash vent furthest from me is still "on" even though the passenger middle vent is off and the smart climate icon is shown in the passenger's temperature knob. Is this normal behavior? I can see how perhaps air should travel across the windows to keep down condensation but not during warm weather and isn't there a separate vent for that anyways on top of the dash?

iirc in mine both passenger vents are blocked when appropriate withsmart climate. I haven’t checked it recently but checked it before.

What’s interesting to me is that smart climate still does the passenger side whenever someone is in the rear seat. So mine can’t do the drivers and rear seat passengers alone.

I think I figured it out -- and Smart Climate seems is a bit "smarter" than I thought. So when I first get into the car if it's hot outside and I haven't run preconditioning for long enough or at all, both driver and passenger side vents are open when the A/C is on and running at high speed. At some point over the next few minutes as the car begins to cool the passenger vents close and the expected Smart Climate behavior resumes. I imagine the reason is since there is more cooling capacity from the A/C than just two vents can provide, to supply driver comfort as quickly as possible it opens the other vents too until it can operate at a capacity which just the two driver vents will suffice. Pretty clever. :)

I wonder if the reason the rear vents don't work without the passenger vent is perhaps the rear vents are considered just "supplemental"?

There is also an AC setting for calm vs fast or something. I have mine set to the lowest usually
Slam, do you have 4 zone climate or just 3?

I have 4 zone smart and find the car is more comfortable with smart turned off. It provides better full cabin cooling rather than having 1 zone trying to keep cool while the other 3 zones are trying to heat the other 1.
I have three zone, and honestly have just kind of left smart climate on by default. I usually have the car preconditioned in the mornings and it doesn’t bother me in the afternoons cause the car is parked in a garage at work.
