Cell replacements after H514

I had an interesting conversation with my local Jaguar service center. I called because I started to get traction battery faults after the H514 update.

My 2019 FE had its battery pack replaced under warranty in late 2021 due to significant loss of capacity (about 38kWh usable with 5123 miles on the vehicle). It’s been operating fine for another 12k miles.
I thought it strange that it would be subject to H514 and buyback, but it is according to my VIN, the Jaguar site and the letters I received via mail.

Today the service advisor scheduled me to bring the car in for potential bad cell replacement due to the traction fault errors. He said it would take a week or two and offered me a loaner. I asked if they were really doing this repair on vehicles subject to buyback and he said yes. He said they just did one last week under the same circumstances.

I asked him specifically about my vehicle since it had a new Hv battery. He said that the battery they put in my vehicle was of the same type as the original. He said that with the previous recall that offered battery replacements for traction faults and 72% charge limits, JLR was supplying different packs.

I just got rid of my 2020 after the second time I had battery cell failures. I was lucky that the dealership bought it from me(not JLR NA). The service manager told me it would be a "minimum" of two weeks to get replacement cells and that was in early December. I drove by the dealership last week and the car has not moved and I know he told me that they ordered the cells back in early December. Even though I got spanked for the buyback, could you imagine the disastrous situation of having a dead ass EV not under warranty? How could you get rid of it? I went back to an ICE (begrudgingly) and I absolutely miss the driving characteristics of my I-Pace. Even the poor infotainment system seems ok now compared to the Acura RDX I am now driving. But I could not risk loosing everything. I am looking forward to a new Rivian RS2 or a Lucid Gravity in a couple of years. Good luck to you and I hope all works out.

Well, despite receiving traction battery faults several times, the service center is unable to do anything because the errors weren’t logged in the car for whatever reason. My photos weren’t proof enough that it’s happening, and testing the battery with help from JLR found no issues.

They’ve had the vehicle for a few weeks and did drive it around a bit. I’ve had to buy a new vehicle already and so it’s just going to remain parked until the buyback. I’ll pick it up tomorrow. With my luck, I’ll get the fault again as soon as I start it up.
