By this summer, those flying going to and from Heathrow airport could choose to sit in a fully-electric Jaguar I-Pace instead of the usual cab. That’s because of a new zero-emissions luxury chauffeur service being offered by travel services company We Know Group.
Initially only 50 I-Pace vehicles will be ferrying passengers with the option of adding another 150 units within 12 months. This partnership between the travel company and Jaguar is perfect in light of London’s January 2020 ‘zero emissions-capable’ requirements for private hire vehicles like taxis. Also doesn’t hurt to save money on gas and have significantly reduced running costs.
Some may question if the I-Pace’s quoted range of 298-mile per charge is enough for a chauffeur car.
CarScoops dis the math and most chauffeur vehicles travel an average distance of about 114 miles per day, meaning the I-Pace's range is more than enough to cover the a for hire driver's daily needs.
“This is a significant step change in our successful, decades-long relationship with Heathrow where we operate arrivals desks in all terminals, to assist thousands of travelers every year,” stated WeKnowGroup CEO, Peter Buchanan.
Even the airport is on board with the installation of a dedicated charging hub to support the new models. If the hub is equipped with 100kWh chargers, then each I-Pace can be “refueled” from 0% to 80% in just 40 minutes.
