Bonnet Storage too small?

2692 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  NerdUno
It's a very common magazine complaint. But since I don't load groceries in the bonnet, it's about the right size for me.
I was going to post a picture, but it's not necessary.
I put the Tesla 32amp EVSE with 3 pigtails (5-15/14-30/14-50) in it's carry pouch, and the TeslaTap J1772 adapter and had a lot of room left. Lockable. Neither a Valet or the PD can get access without a warrant or a prybar assuming they know there is storage up front.

As Jay-Z said, "Well my glove compartment is locked, so is the frunk..."
Or something like that.
I keep my cleaning sprays & towels in the "net". And, my Teslatap up there. Seems handier than digging under the rear floor for it. But, I do wish that the hood would close more "graciously". Usually wake up the neighbors closing it.

I agree, the hood is a little clunky, like the charge port door. Mine is actually slightly ill-fitted ... only an owner would notice but still.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be used for sixpacks. I haven't yet but I predict it will happen, with 110% confidence.

I never got why magazines complained about the small frunk on the I-Pace but then complimented it on it's cab-forward design with a short hood that maximizes the interior space by pushing the wheels out to the extremities and as a consequence leaves very little room for a frunk. Teslas have bigger frunks because they still have the traditional longer hoods despite not needing that space for an engine. The Audi e-tron is actually the worst of both worlds - a traditional long hood with a small frunk. But agree with WattAJag about the not-so-genteel frunk closing on the I-Pace.

The Audi e-tron quattro frunk is actually generous. The worst offender is the Mercedes EQC that doesn't have a frunk at all!

My Tesla P90D with front and rear motors had about the same size frunk as the I-Pace.
That's not true.. I looked at Teslas and X and S both had larger frunks in overall usability.

True for the single motor versions. The dual-motor Teslas use most of the frunk for the front motor assembly. Our car cover barely fit in the frunk of our Tesla.
