Another traction battery fault issue

2020 iPace had been charging normally, driving normally, recently had maintenance in August and everything checked out fine. 12V batteries had been previously replaced in January.

Suddenly stopped on the highway and wouldn't move. Tons of different warnings came up including the high voltage fault and limited performance.

It has now been at dealership for 3+ weeks with "traction battery fault". Initially they thought it was a software issue but that didn't fix it. Then they thought it was the ac compressor but that didn't fix it either. Car is still charging normally for them but the fault keeps coming up.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it going to end up being a faulty battery module? If so why isn't that showing up? Car is out of warranty but the battery is still under warranty.

The dealership has been very thorough and they said: During initial inspection saw a "traction battery fault" warning flash on, was able to clear it with an ignition cycle, was able to drive vehicle into shop after. Scanned vehicle and found BECM faults P0AA6-00 P304E-A2 P304D-A2 and U3001-00, EPICB P0ABD-00, and EPICC P0ABD-00. Performed voltage isolation test 1 and 2, no faults were found. Updated BECM during test 1. Cleared all codes and sent vehicle on a drive cycle, drained battery down to 20%, re-charged battery to 100%, "Traction battery fault" came on during second drive cycle prep. Scanned vehicle and found BECM P0AA6-00, Performed voltage isolation test 1 and 2 once more, no problems were found. Performed a midtronics test to Aux battery, results shown 12.85V and 269 measured A(EN). With the assistance of TA was able to find that air conditioning compressor has an internal fault and will require replacement. “ AC compressor has been replaced but the last fault is still coming up.

Others who have had the P0AA6 fault have had the traction battery replaced. It is a generic code that doesn't really identify what is wrong. It doesn't appear to be a cell module fault but a fault with the other electronics related to the traction battery.

It may actually only be a fault in the BECM or the BEM. They can be repaired/replaced separately, or they get replaced with a complete replacement of the traction battery.

You can put P0AA6 into the search function and see all the other posts that have it.

So after five months my car had two modules replaced…. One month later another traction battery fault. They found another two modules failed. I was told the entire battery pack would be replaced. The car was returned after two months and working perfectly fine until less than a month later. Another traction failure and limited to 72% charge yet again. Could it be they never replaced the battery like they said they would? Or are newer batteries still as faulty?

@MMipace Do you have a 2019 or 2020 car? Go to the Software Update display and tell us what the BECS value is. It is a string of characters separated by dashes.

Dealers were under instructions to only replace full packs if the number of faulty modules exceeded 7. I suspect they just replaced faulty modules per JLR authorization even though the dealer would have preferred to replace the entire pack.

2020. I was getting modules replaced at a time and then got a call from the dealer saying they would just replace the whole battery. The estimate on the paperwork said $39k so I assumed they had replaced the whole thing.

Your battery was May 29th 2018 and from the H484 document:

Battery packs manufactured between March 1, 2018 and May 31, 2018 are exposed to multiple technical issues that have shown to contribute to an elevated risk of thermal overload.

I guess you will get a new pack this week, I expect a ton of measurements :)

Yes, they send me some pics of the battery and the car without battery, but unfortunately I was not able to read the sticker on the battery.

I don't get it. @dernotte has 'BZ' BECS and you have 'BV' - like I have- .
Then 'BZ' is more recent and you write he is behind ?
Or do you refer to #16 : @MMipace 'BY' ?

I recently had the AC tubes replaced. The workshop manager and first engineer strongly advised against further updating the BECS ".. if it works it won't get better..".

Back in 2023 I found the 3 letter code in the BCCM.

They confirmed another module needs replacement so they’ve ordered it. I’m not sure why they don’t just replace the whole battery if I’m on module number five. It’s a lot of work for the service department to keep having to take the car apart and put it back already five times.

Is there any tracking or date identification on module replacement?
I would not be a bit surprised if JLR is scavenging modules from the buyback vehicles just to get to the end of the warranty. Remove, test and certify for warranty replacement.
