Jaguar's first battery-electric vehicle has been revealed ahead of its Geneva debut and when it comes to design, the I-Pace has stuck very close to the concept model that first debuted two years ago.
Taking inspiration from the dramatic CX 75 supercar, the production ready I-Pace is a car with exciting proportions and sleek silhouette. Because there’s no engine under the bonnet, Jaguar’s design team headed by Ian Callum had free reign to come up with a blueprint without restraint. Fundamentally, it has the SUV proportions but with a very cab forward design.
Hiding under the I-Pace’s aerodynamic body is a 90kWh Lithium-ion battery that’s capable of delivering up to 298 miles of range on the WLTP, and 240 miles according to EPA.
What’s more, Jaguar claims the battery pack will be able to charge to 80% capacity in just 40 minutes using a 100kW rapid charger. The same amount of charge will take around 85 minutes when a 50kW DC unit is used. Of course Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) varies from home to home as will the I-Pace’s charge time. According to CarScoops, those with an AC wall box (7kW), will need 10 hours of charge time to hit 80%.
Employing two electric motors, the I-Pace sends 394 hp and 512 lb-ft of torque to an all-wheel drive system. Those specs are good enough to launch the electric SUV from zero to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
Already on sale in the UK, pricing for the 2019 Jaguar I-PACE starts at £63,495.
