you're in california, you probably gave JLR a great deal as most likely they were likely compelled to buy it back for the full price you paid for your 2019 I-Pace FE, plus taxes, registration fees. I've been going through that buyback process for way too long. Last i heard they said customer service would be in touch within 25 business days, but I'd almost surely hear back well before then. Well, today is business day 21. Then they said it would take a few weeks to a few months to complete the buy back from there. But I think if I can get a check for $100k its worth the wait.

Also, forgot to mention for those of you holding out, the top secret word on the street, after massaging my buyback manager over several calls, is that you are not ever getting the new battery, thats some of why I say just do the buyback process, you won't be sorry. the newer ones are just slightly better and with 5 more years of warranty.....

 

I don’t buy your contact’s “top secret” statement at all! Though I can understand why he says this. Firstly some replacement batteries have already come through; several members on this and the UK forum report their battery replacements. Secondly, what alternative is available once the few hundred slow selling vehicles in stock have been used to swap out some H484 affected vehicles? The buy-back/replacement seems to be Jaguar’s limited contribution to this LGES generated problem. Once Jaguar have exhausted this option (which they are pushing hard right now as it helps reduce unsold stock), the dependency will switch to LGES ramping up and supplying replacement batteries. How else are the 2500 vehicles under H514 going to get fixed? That’s before we consider the remaining model years post-2019. Jaguar and LGES (and your contact) seem to be working to manage customer expectations by rolling out the solution slowly, as LGES simply cannot produce thousands of replacement batteries overnight.

 

Week 2 report- looking at the trade-in for a new I-Pace option-

Week 1 report was on a different thread, but this seems the best thread for my comments. I have a 2019 I-Pace that qualifies for the H484 complete battery recall. Briefly, I had previously told JLR that I preferred battery replacement. I like others have more recently had concerns that there will be no new batteries so I told JLR I would look into the trade for a new I-Pace option. I notified my case manager and was referred to a Consumer Affairs Specialist (CAS). Week 1 the CAS told me to find a car that I liked and then the CAS would assist with negotiations. I found a car and forwarded the information to the CAS. The CAS told me that he would let the sales manager of the dealership involved know and I should expect a communication and I should give the sales manager a call. I left a message for the sales manager. The Sales manager never called me back.

For week 2, The CAS implied that I should reach out again to the dealership. Since the sales manger was not returning my calls, I messaged the dealership on their website letting them know the sales manger had not called me back. I got a call immediately from a sales rep. I explained that this was complex issue involving the H484 recall but she assured me that she could handle the situation. I explained the the H484 recall. The next day I received an offer to trade for over $40,000 out of pocket. I explained that this figure was not appropriate for the situation. I also notified the the CAS about the unreasonable offer. He apologized and asked me what was a figure I found reasonable. I gave him a figure and also pointed out that my current I-Pace is low milage and with new batteries should last many more years. I pointed out I was happy to wait for new batteries, but also willing to go with the flow if Jaguar prefers the trade for a new I-Pace option. There has been no response to that email.

It is certainly good to see that others are satisfied with their individual outcomes. That is not so for me yet but I am patient. Thanks to all for sharing their thoughts and experiences.

That is why I posted this. Yes the offer they made you is unreasonable. In my post that was deleted because some older members got mad that I got the best of them.....I had the deal posted that I got and that is why I posted Ben Schroeders contact info. At the end of the day, I traded a 2019 First edition for a 2023 HSE 400 with the same or upgraded(updated) options, taxes and registration and 5 year warranty, for a dollar. Im not kidding, a dollar. So I got a 4 year newer car, with 17 miles on it, 5 year more warranty, basically same car but better, for a dollar. Call Ben, thats my advice.

If a deal seems (seemed) good to me, it doesn't make any difference to me as to whether someone else got a similar product for a lower price. Maybe they haggled for longer, maybe they were more pushy, maybe that extra few $$$ were worth the extra hassle to them, maybe they settled for something I found unacceptable. Maybe those extra $$$ made the difference between putting food on the table or not. I don't know, or care.

My advice to the poster was to keep talking with CAS until they got a deal that they are happy with, rather than trying to mirror a deal that may have had alternative issues factoring into the final numbers.

Whose advice was to try and mirror anything? You are the only one comparing. My only thought was/is to share a good experience so that someone else might know the range of possibilities and do the same or even better. The same dealership and salesperson contact information was provided because they have experience with the process and achieved a better deal than I could on my own, nothing more. Maybe another diference in our outlook on life is that I don't make assumptions about other peoples intentions or get my feelings hurt so easily when I have been outperformed, rather, I choose to learn and share my experience so that the next person might do even better. I also don't think that my time in a forum gives me extra credibility and use it to denigrate others, get other peoples posts deleted, condescend, etc, thats another difference.

 

As someone also naigating the H484 for my 2019 HSE, I think it's useful to know how how people achieved a good outcome for them.

 

California lemon law assumes the car will be bought back for full purchase price(+ tax, registration fees and interest payments) minus a relatively small usage calculation, if the car has been at the dealer for 30 days or more, cumulatively, for the same issue as long as the car is still under the original factory warranty.

 

Interesting so you received a brand new 2023 I Pace for $1.00? All you had to do was hand them over your 2019 car? Seems as though something is missing in the translation.

 

Nope, I didn't leave anything out. My 2019 First Edition had about 33,000 miles on it, had ac issues, 12v system issues, and was a victim on the main battery recall etc, same as everyone else's. The first offer was significantly different than the last one. Basically the last offer was done between Ben Schroeder as mentioned above and JAG. I don't think I could have achieved that deal on my own. Thats why I am letting people know so that they can know the range of possibilities. Completed this deal on Sept 28th. 1 dollar, they even paid taxes, registration, and all fees associated. The two cars a equiped the same down to the wheels even, just different colors. the 19 was grey which I miss a little, this one is the Astuni white, which is nice in its own right. 1 dollar, my 2019, and I drove off the lot.

 

I’m going through the same process. 2019 HSE. Hoping to get a new one. Though I’m not as enamored with the tweets they made. Fingers crossed I can get a similar deal.

 

This conversation concerning the 484 battery replacements and trading up to a new Jaguar I Pace is now getting even more confusing for many of us. First off, the H484 full battery replacement applies only to a select few I Pace cars within certain range or dates of manufacture. It must be said that for the vast majority of cars that are not in this specific category this does NOT APPLY. I have seen no evidence that Jaguar will be so benevolent as to provide $1.00 cars across the board (while they last and are in supply) to everybody who is experiencing battery issues. I would say it is misleading and spurious to suggest otherwise

 

I would add to "misleading and spurious" - it is outright mischievious and unhelpful to those trying to work thru the H484 process armed with the thought that JLR is supplying cars for $1.

Unreasonably raising people's expectations only leads to more frustrations and delays during the negotiations and more sense of unfairness in the whole process - only leading to more bad press for Jaguar and higher costs and extended timelines all around.

Bottomline message to those effected by H484: Examine the numbers posted on this forum (in numerous threads) in detail - "H484 affected owners" are being offered ~$60k towards a vehicle of their choice by JLR. The rest is contingent on what you choose and the deal offered by the selling dealership.

 

I didn't say or imply that Jaguar was supplying cars for 1 dollar ACROSS THE BOARD. Your willlful misunderstanding of the thread is obvious. Even the title of the thread is spelled out that this is part of the BUY BACK process. I don't know how to be more clear than that. I also even gave you the information on who I dealt with if you have a problem believing that the deal transpired.(only because I knew there would be angry people like you who and others who, without even checking, will cast doubt). You should really check into something before you call someone a liar. There is no miscievious behavior here and I in fact gave the full details of the deal so it would not be misleading. In fact, if you check the news and can comprehend it, there are even better deals being made with Rivian that have been published. That is the deal I got, end of story. If you cant or didn't get the same deal, sorry for you, actually no, Not sorry for either of you, its funny! I didn't say what Jaguar would do for eveyone, I said what they did for me with all of the details of it. I am noone special to Jag and had never dealt with this dealership before. If your car is in the buyback process, at this point in time you can possibly get the same if you work with the right dealer. Thats the only thing going on here and thats another reason I gave contact information to the person at the dealership I worked with. You have comprehension issues or anger issues or just hurt feeling because you took an earlier deal that wasn't as good, but like you both keep saying, if you are happy with your deal, then good for you, carry on! Why don't you leave people alone who are trying to help others? I don't work for Jag (but this is my 4th one so I should) and frankly, have no obligation to people with anger issues to explain any further.
