I recently purchased a 2019 HSE First Edition. The car only had 26,000 kms on it and is in great condition. Having previously owned BMW's and Porsche's I am very impressed with the iPace driving dynamics. After a full recharge I am seeing an estimated range of @390 kms which is more than I had expected and as I am generally using the car just for city trips I only need to charge the car 1-2 times a week using our Level 2 charger.
This morning when I started the car I had a new alarm: 'Traction Battery Failure'. I don't see anything like that described in the Owner's Manual. Does anyone know what this is about and what the resolution involves?

You may not like the answer.
Looks like an appointment at the dealership.
Is the car under any warranty?
Battery should be covered.

It doesn't drive, does it?
Did you start and stop the car, and walk the key out of range for a few minutes? See if the error recurs.
But yeah it's probably a tow to the dealer ...

If the message says "failure" there are several possible causes related to the 400V system and components using 400V.

If the message says "fault" the problem lies within the traction battery. Possibly this car recently got recall H441 applied and it just detected a bad battery cell module.

It is a fine distinction in wording but that simple difference changes the focus of where the problem lies. It requires a scan for fault codes to know what the root problem is.

Any other messages pop up at the same time or was it just this one message?

Thanks everyone for the quick input. The alert says 'fault' not 'failure' so the car is still drivable. And yes, it did just have the H441 update. Is this something that would normally be covered under warranty? If there is a 'bad cell' is that a big deal to have it replaced?

I don't have first-hand experience with this particular situation (as of yet, knock on wood) but if you read some of the threads in this forum that relate to the H441 recall you'll see that some people are waiting quite a while to have their battery packs fixed. Do you have a dealer with a good service dept?

So I've had my car in the shop since August 21st, it's officially 2 months since that day and they only just got everything (parts, software, etc)and are working on it, and I was told I'd get it back in a few days. So take that as you will, your car may or may not be in the shop for an extended period of time, but because it's October (which is when the second update was said to come out after the initial delay) you can always ask what length of time they're estimating it'll take for the car to be repaired.

I had the car into the dealership and after their diagnostics they applied another software update and the fault cleared and I got the car back. But i got the sense they weren't 100% confident that the fix would hold up long term so they told me to bring it back immediately if the fault returns. Fingers crossed...

Yeah, so from my understanding, the H441 update was apparently throwing false positives, for some it was within a few days of getting it applied (like me for example), for others quite a while later. I was told later the same day I dropped the car off that they weren't sure what was wrong but that either modules or the whole battery would be replaced, but they needed to wait on a software update to identify the bad modules. I was told mid-Sept would be the arrival for it. Came and went and I was told it would be delayed until October, no timeframe, just October. Then mid-October. So I was like ok, second week of October. Cool. So they got the parts on order last Friday, updated the car on Monday, and have been working on it since Tuesday to replace the cells.

There might be a warning thrown if the new new update your car got detects exactly what modules are bad, if any.

I'd say don't worry too much about it, I think the worst part of the wait is having your Jaguar dealership order parts and waiting for them to come in. But in my case it took the weekend to get them in.
