I would like it, when I show the car, ... just for looks - if I could have the mirrors out, but the doors locked.

Should be driver vehicle setup choice

My 16 Range Rover operates the same way.

On my RR, freezing rain froze both side mirrors in the folded position. I would have preferred to have temporarily disabled the folding, and still lock the vehicle, since the freezing rain was predicted.

Driving off with folded mirrors is a safety hazard. Not locking the vehicle is unwise too. Maybe it is worth a complaint to NHTSA.
