Height of Home ChargePoint Charger

I will have an outlet installed in my garage to plug in a ChargePoint charger. The instructions from ChargePoint say to install the outlet 20-26 inches from the ground. Then mount the charger and plug it in.

My concern is that the charger will be very low. I will install the charger on the end wall of the garage, which makes it the right height to be hit by the car bumper if i pull in too far.

If i mount it another foot higher, all the electrical wires will be above the car height.

Does anyone know why ChargePoint recommends to install the charger so low?

If you installed one, what height is yours?

I put the cord holster as high as my wife can easily reach it. Then mount the EVSE body high as well. This keeps the cord mostly off the ground. I also use a "U-Bracket" to keep long cords off the ground. The middle of the cord is pushed onto the U-hook after I holster the handle.

20" is too low IMO for a 240 outlet, and might actually be a code violation in some areas. I like 36 to 48" for RV or Welding outlets. With EVSE's they are easier to see if they have LEDs.

Jaguar i-Pace FE Photon Red 20" wheels, "Leaper"
Two Chevrolet Volts in service
24.2 kW x 480v 3ph solar array self-installed.

I went with ChargePoint instructions so the top of the outlet measures 28 from the floor.
This makes the top of the charger about 51 inches.
Note: with a straight vertical charger plug/cord, the charger height is determined by the
outlet box height due to cord length.
Although the final charger height seems a little low, I find it works fine.
With my garage I have room if I just don't pull in too far and the charger is located in the
middle of the wall so it is on the left side of the car. Thus a straight shot to the car charge port. I had to mount the charger on wood base do to lack of stud to screw into.
And if I ever need to park on the left side of the garage, the cord should be long enough to reach also.

I said to the guy, "This high." And that's where he put both our 240v chargers.

Mount it where you want it. As McRat pointed out, following your local code is the limiting factor. I suggest you have the unit on hand before having the outlet installed, so you can ensure it is placed correctly given the length of the pig tail.

Thanks all.

Photos are great too. Mine will also be installed on a piece of wood since we want to put it between the studs.

And i have the unit so we can make sure both the outlet and the unit are close enough together.

I'll probably install the outlet above bumper height so I don't have to worry about pulling my car in too far into the garage.

This Chargepoint was installed on the 8th and passed final inspection on the 9th in our city. I wanted the height to be convenient and out of the way of the car pulling in and out and also people walking by from the 3rd car garage. A few competing requirements. That is why install is plug on one side of pole and charger on next side. Photos attached. Not sure why they appear rotated incorrectly.
