Level 1 Charger Stops after a few hours

Hello,

I love my new I-Pace! I would really like to be able to use the 120V wall charger that it came with. I realize it is slow. That's OK, as long as it works as expected.

What I am seeing is the following:

1) I plug the charger into a 120V outlet in the the wall, and the other end into the charging port on the I-Pace
2) The charging light on the charging port goes on.
3) The Remote app shows that the vehicle is charging
4) After a few hours, the Remote app says "Not connected"
5) The charging light goes off
6) Only about 30 miles has been added to the total range
7) If I unlock and lock the car with the key fob, charging starts again, but then stops again after another 30 miles

Is this expected behavior? I'm hoping not. I would love to be able to charge to >80% with the level1 charger.

Thanks,

jon

Is it a dedicated outlet or shared? Any way to check voltage while charging? All I can think is the charging may kick off due to low voltage. Especially if it is a shared circuit.

Otherwise you may need an electrician to check it out.

I honestly recommend getting a dedicated 240v EVSE even if it is lower power.

Thanks for the response ...

It is a dedicated outlet in the wall in my garage.

What is the advantage of an EVSE charger over the 120AC charger that is included with the I-Pace?

I have an issue with my Level 2 charger .. the car starts throttling after a few minutes but then it keeps charging once I stop the session and restart it. I don't have that same issue with the Level 1 charger .. it keeps charging reliably .. I think I've had it plugged in for 30 or more hours with no problem.

Faster and more efficient charging is the main advantage. There is a certain amount of electrical overhead to charging so the L1 probably uses 10% to 30% more power than an L2.

If you don't want to pull wire you can probably re-purpose the neutral to be a second hot, pop in a 240v breaker and you are good to go. With any luck it has #12 wire and you can charge at 16 amps. That is 3,840 watts vs 1,200 watts. 3x the speed.

If you happen to have an unused electric dryer outlet you could move up to LCS-30 and charge at 24 amps 5,760 watts and very close to the 7kW vehicle rating. Plug and play.

Just some options to consider.
