Exclamation sudden acceleration in reverse

I ignited my EV and set it in reverse mode. When I moved the foot from brake to gas pedal the EV suddendly started to accelerate full speed in reverse. I was throwed forward into the seat belt caused by heavy acceleration and was not able to reach the brake.
The car crashed with full throttle into a stone fence. Severe damage rear and car not drivable.
If anyone had been behind the car when it happened, they would be killed.
Cars picked up by towing truck/Jaguar assistance. No answers yet from Jaguar.

Anyone experienced any similar?

My EV has earlier had a lot of software problem/black & dead screens.
Beautiful car to drive and owe, but if dangerous and potential runaway car I am scared.

Sudden unintended acceleration is extremely common in all cars, trucks, and motorcycles.
I was at the DMV when a driver taking their driving test drove through the wall, but missed everybody inside.

Do a search on SUA on Google.

Definitely check the floormat, these are common cause of SUA. Those new to the I-Pace should leave the car in CREEP ON mode, so you don't risk SUA.

Trivia - Cadillac has Reverse Automatic Braking, not just FAB.

Exclamation Creep mode was on

I have always had the I-pace in creep mode.
It was in creep mode before the incident. Interestingly when Jaguar logget the car after the crash, the creep mode was in "off" modus.
So the car must have turned the creep mode off as a part of the failure.

Apologies-- I should have expressed my sympathy for your situation before.



Terrible, and I hope you are ok after the crash. And I surely hope that was a black swan one in a million type event you and we will not experience with this vehicle.



Please come back with what the dealer finds was the cause.

Ordinary drivers are used to putting a car in reverse, and letting the torque converter slowly roll the car back without pushing hard on the throttle, if at all.
In the I-Pace with CREEP OFF, you must apply some pressure to the throttle before it moves to unlock the parking brake. This can cause people to push too hard for reversing.

After reading this article I did some testing, and yeah, it will accelerate hard in R by flooring the gas (need to remind myself to find out the reverse speed limit). But not hard enough to keep your foot planted.

Yes! That JUST HAPPENED TO ME YESTERDAY!!!! Luckily, I was able to slam on the brake before hitting the curb and tree behind me. GEEZ!!! I'm calling my Jaguar Dealer right now. So sorry this happoened to you as well and you crashed. But luckily you're okay. The car can be fixed or replaced. BUT, for me, I'm fairly certain I have ALL the latest software updates as my I-Pace went recently into the updates although more for the Infotainment system.

When this same incident just happened to me in my I-Pace yesterday, I gently accelerated as usual in reverse and it suddenly took off in full or close to full power. I have Brake Regen on high with Creep mode OFF. And for those others wondering, my floor mat was not in the way; I actually have the regular floor mats + the all-weather floor mats BOTH snugly inserted with the 2 hooks. It was crazy and unlike the OP, I was lucky to catch it by slamming on my brake pedal. I just informed my dealer's SA. It's a very dangerous and potentially deadly problem!
