Android (Pixel 3) GPS issues

Wonder if anyone else is experiencing this with other phones, perhaps. I feel like something about this car makes my phone's GPS go wonky. If I put the phone in the obvious spot - in the little space below the three screens (or even in the little cut-out between the cup holders and that space) my GPS (usually using Waze and android auto) loses me instantly and I stop getting GPS updates or alerts. It works better but still sometimes has issues if I set the phone in the cup holders.

I realize I could just use the car GPS, but I really appreciate getting speed trap alerts on Waze. Not to mention, my GPS on my daily commute in the Jaguar suggests multiple pointless loops on and off the highway for no reason.

The solution in my head? To get a phone mount somewhere higher up in the car. Maybe a vent clip. But 1) I don't want to block the vents 2) then I've got a wire stretching from the arm rest console to the vents. Way too annoying and unsightful for me to do this.

Anyone having similar GPS issues in this car with your phones?

Moto X4 works great for me. I put the phone under the screens.

I am having the same issue with a Samsung Galaxy S9+. Waze/Google Maps keep losing GPS lock if they ever get one. I haven't found a location with decent GPS reception yet in the car that is practical. Maybe the UV coating on the windshield and the panoramic glass roof blocks GPS signals as well. Cellular reception on the other hand seems not to be impacted. It's a bummer since like you I also love Waze and (used to) use it for my daily commute.

The question has come up before but it's worth asking again: ryzvy and Zereaux, do you have the heated windshield?

I have the heated windshield and no issues. Some phones have worse antennas than others.

Here's the discussion on this on the UK forum and some suggestions for a fix:

So on my way home from work today I tried the only spot I hadn't tried before, the slot for the phone between the two cup holders in the front, and Waze worked flawlessly. Not one second of dropped GPS signal in 90 minutes. Maybe the upright position of the phone situates the GPS antenna to pick up signal thru the side windows. For those having GPS issues it might be worth a try, although not ideal if you carry beverage cups (I don't). Hopefully it'll continue working for me in the coming days.

Interesting. This will sound funny but I don't know if I have a heated windshield. I don't have the cold climate pack. My wife's phone (Pixel 3 but non-XL) doesn't seem to have this issue. Strange!
