Piece of plastic inside rear wheel well

If you look inside the rear wheel wells of the I-Pace (towards the back portion), there is a piece of black plastic that looks like it's tacked on as an afterthought. Originally I thought these may have been part of shipment process. But when I looked at other I-Pace(s)? at the dealer, they all still have this piece of blacl plastic attached. Are these those minute additions for aerodynamics? They don't seem to function as pieces that hold the wheel well liner attached.

See the pieces of plastic that are attached to the wheel well on both sides. They stick out from the fender and look odd. My first thought was maybe they were there to block off wheel well vents where air goes through and out the vents from the bumper. I saw a video on YouTube with Wayne Burgess saying something that this was a late minute change where JLR designers found out that blocking these vents made the car more aerodynamic. If you look at the vents in the bumper, they are solid pieces of black plastic.

I think that's actually because the tire protrudes past the fender. So, by law, they have to add that little piece.
