2020 Defender... love/hate + I-PACE shared tech

I'll admit I was pretty amped up for the new Defender and after watching the launch video I feel...
  • No soft top?
  • Looks that feel more forgettable than iconic?
  • Boring?

Since our I-PACE group is part of the JLR fam, I thought it might be a good place to hear if I'm the only one that cares.

Even if you aren't a fan, you've got to admit they've got killer tech and many of the Land Rover features we have on the I-Pace but amped of for off-road (because you know you'll be doing that).

What do you guys think?

Looks like a blown-up/upscale Kia Soul. But then again Koreans pretty much copy everything and the new Soul took liberties of taking cues from Land Rover design. Supposedly it looks much better in person.

I like it! It needs bigger tires though. I wonder how much it weighs.

They have a new name for the infotainment system. Maybe a new OS?

It's high 4000s to low 5000s in weight. Very heavy despite the unibody.
I think it looks fun, but I'm done with new ICE.

The New Land Rover Defender Revealed
The sooner JLR dumps Micro$oft the happier I will be. The I-Pace version (which is the very latest) makes Windows 95 look like it would be an upgrade.

The problem isn't the Microsoft system. It's all these digital systems. Just give me physical dials and buttons. No automated controls.

That Defender would almost make me buy a gas car again. After having 5 rovers and seeing that launch video I was so pumped. What a car. Did you catch the part about Hybrid being mentioned? I wonder how much hybrid system. And all fitted out it looks closer to $90K. (Still drooling).

Early reviews on the JLR Hybrids are not favorable. Also, you may want to note they still haven’t delivered any, even though they are built and ready for delivery...not a good sign...
