Jaguar has Tesla in Sights

The I-Pace is being developed to go head to head with the Tesla Model X.

Karl-Friedrich Stracke, Magna Steyr's president, had some words to give autoweek.com when they had a little interview.

Quote:
"The acceleration is unbelievable; it is faster than Tesla. You press the accelerator and it pushes you back into the seat. The steering is very agile and nimble and you don't feel the mass of the car," Stracke said. "The chassis performance is gorgeous. It's unbelievably quiet. There is some fine-tuning going on with the suspension, but that's normal work. I am 100 percent certain it will challenge a lot of cars on the market today."
They're claiming that the I-Pace is going to be the first real competitor for the Model X.

Quote:
The I-Pace is important for Jaguar for a number of reasons. First, it places Jaguar in direct competition with Tesla. The Model X, partially because of its troublesome falcon-wing doors, has not met Tesla's sales expectations, and the I-Pace will be its first real competitor.

Well yea, the Model X was a porker thanks to those falcon doors and the extra weight makes it accelerate slower. Someone was trapped in a burning Model X because of those doors. And the I-Pace looks infinitely better IMO, more aggressive with the air vents compared to Tesla bumpers.

Now the question is which version of the Model X, cause I doubt it'd be the P100d as that thing hits 0-60 in 2.4 seconds or something and is a mid 10 second 1/4 mile car.

Jaguar will have a lot of catching up to do because the Model 3 will be out soon, a big part of Tesla's growth, which will have an effect on other current models from them.

The other part of it is Tesla has a sort of appeal that Jaguar doesn't, the masses like Tesla by default, Jaguar is different.

The Model 3 won't be taking away any sales from the I-Pace and that's something I firmly believe. The Model 3 is going to be an "entry-level" EV much like the Chevy Bolt. The I-Pace is on a completely different page from that.

We have to look at the I-Pace's price range as well. Tesla cars are notoriously expensive and the only one within the I-Pace's estimated price is the 75D and that thing goes from 0-100 kph in 6.2 seconds.

Price range is the biggest thing that will separate any sort of thought of comparing the Model 3 and the I-Pace.

Aside from the performance aspect, the I-Pace looks leaps better than anything on Teslas lineup in my opinion. Much more character and definition to it.

Tesla has a futuristic approach to their lineup and the design reflects that; missing front grille, huge touchscreen interior, weird wing doors. That caters to people who likes the aesthetics and then there are people who likes the look of the average car but want to drive an Ev as well.

the I-Pace both looks good and it'll be more affordable than Tesla for what you're getting.

We still haven't seen the Model 3's interior, so I'm not expecting much from them when it comes to the morel affordable model. But Jaguar interiors are generally beautiful and more so with the EV theme running throughout the I-Pace. Jaguar's model will be quite the looker and it doesn't need a giant tablet to do it.

I think there was either teaser photos or spy shots of the interior and it is extremely basic to say the least. Other than the fancy screen you get, that's essentially the only thing to look forward to.
