Don't you want tires that have less rolling resistance for maximum range?
Sure, of course but certainly not at the sacrifice of traction (especially in rain); we often get torrential rainstorms here in South Florida and driving on the highway in such a storm can be quite unnerving when you either don't have the right tires and/or the right vehicle. I would say you can play with the inflation of the tires in terms of rolling resistance but again, over-inflating too much will cause excessive tread wear in the middle of the tires.
