Extension Cords for Charging

Hi All,

As my picture shows I sort of knocked down my garage a week or so ago . I'm building a much larger 3 car garage for all my toys. The problem is the sliver of space I thought I had to park during construction no longer exists....

I'm hoping to use an extension cord from my temp electric pole to the front of my house where I'll be parked on the street for the next several (hopefully) months.

Last night I parked in the middle of my alley and plugged in for the night!

Any recommendations for a 220 extension cord that is ~100'??

Thanks all!

Amazon has some 50', 25', RV 14-50 extension in 6 gauge.
100' is going to cost some more $.
An electrician could custom make one for your needs though.

I've been planning this new garage/heated and enclosed breezeway mudroom since I bought the home a year ago - far before I thought about buying the IPace haha. I sort of didn't factor this piece into the process!!

Is an extension cord like that safe to use and is it safe to use outside in rain?

No.

Price 100" of 6/3 SO cord. See if you think it's worth it.

I'd make other arrangements.

So you run 100 feet of 6/3 through waterproof conduit to a waterproof electrical box on a post. You attach the presumably waterproof charger to the same post and run the wires in through waterproof conduit into the waterproof box. I'd want to come off of the electrical panel for all this, but you could wire it into a dryer circuit. It's all pretty half-assed that way or any way, but it seems to me it would be safe for a temporary thing. But then I'm no electrician.

The proper way is to do it all in a ditch and hard conduit, but that's a lot of work for a temp solution. Or a 10amp/120v charger and some quality 12/3 extension cords.

I don't own an iPace so unfamiliar with what the plug looks like...is it a 14/50 4 prong? I would assume so, but I dunno.

I've never seen a 220 14/50 extension cable before, but did stumble on enclosed photo which clearly shows it's that plug with accessories for a Tesla extension cable at - Yikes- $589....

I built one for about 100 bucks I think that's 200' long 14/50 on each end, with the female end with snap cover outdoor type box. Technically, if the receptacle is outside, then it needs to be a 14/50 dual GFI by most codes. And you must use 4 wires because the neutral cannot see the ground or else it will trip the second you plug in the male plug into the plug on the pole. I don't know if that helps, but thought I'd throw that out there. I think 8 gauge would be fine for your purposes, however me-myself I'd use lesser 10g at 100' and that would do it for a car charger, and save some hassle on cable stiffness and cost.
