I-Pace wins coveted 2019 European Car of the Year

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/04/...e-year-geneva/

1st time Jaguar has ever won ECOTY.
Not the first EV to win (Nissan Leaf won in 2011)
Not the first SUV to win (Volvo XC40 won in 2018).

JLR has done something remarkable, but has done a curiously good job keeping it a secret, until now.

Must be embarrassing to be discounting and offering 0% financing on such a highly decorated vehicle so soon after launch.
Maybe that's why Tata is looking for a JV partner for the Jaguar brand.

Agreed. Well-deserved award / recognition. As folks on the UK Forum have noted, JLR hasn't quite finished the car and related infrastructure (e.g., OTA updates). Additional barriers: dealer apathy, cost (most models on U.S. lots are ~ $80k), Jaguar brand reputation (anyone equate Jaguar with reliability?), and range (sole car @ ~ 180 winter miles? may require 2d car).
Naturally, I hope JLR succeeds here; but it's no wonder so many Leafs (even with low range) and Model 3s have sold ($). I would say Tesla now owns the $30k-$60k market, while I-Pace is clear winner at the much smaller $70k - $120k market (ignoring offsets).

This pic didn't upload in original post... I wish forum admin would change the front page to this from the month's old "Netherland's Best" news...

That's fabulous news. Certainly well-deserved, and somehow I am not surprised!

I took the day off today to pick up a Cargo Mat (very nice quality!) and go on a hike with my wife in a fairly remote park and got to enjoy the twisty and beautiful drive along a reservoir. There was some freeway too, with Steering Assist engaged. It was an awesome day!

Having driven a Seat Ibiza (2nd place 2018) and a Kia Ceed (3rd place 2019); I question the wisdom of the voting journalists ;-)

It may be about the novelty (or the bang for a buck). However I-Pace is the first real EV from traditional makers and it beats the German manufacturers by a year being India owned, perhaps UK designed, and Austria (Graz, see below) asembled car.

OT: To mention the rest of models assembled there are:

Mercedes-Benz G-Class 1979–present
BMW 5 Series 2017–present
Jaguar E-Pace 2017–present
Jaguar I-Pace 2018–present
BMW Z4 2018-present
Toyota Supra 2019–present

EV 400 HSE since 03-2019

I bet Nissan would take exception to that statement
