Jaguar? Save me!! Tesla Model 3 gets another delay.

I put my deposit down on a Tesla Model 3 at 6 am on April 1st, 2016.

First they told me Nov 2017 to Jan 2018
Next Feb 2018 to April 2018
Then May to July.

At dinner on 6/27 it was still May to July.

Sometime late last night, they changed it again. To Sept-Nov.

If somebody at JLR is reading this, please do not do this. Tell the truth. We can take it. We need to know so we can plan our lives.

I can buy the most expensive car Tesla sells. Actually a few of them. And add it to my harem.

But I don't like being conned. Tesla conned me again. No soup for you!

I did my math, and determined that Tesla could not fulfill my order. This was in February.

I predicted they would move the delivery up for a third or fourth time.

Yes they did.

Jaguar Staff? If you think you will be late, it's OK IF YOU TELL US. Don't lie about it. You will be the heroes even if you are late. Tesla lies then makes fake stories, and some buyers won't tolerate it, and will trash talk them for 10 years. When you sell $100k cars, buyers aren't stupid. The Model 3 is $83k when optioned, but it's no Jag. It's bare bone POS with big electric motors.

They just plain don't like you McRat I can understand them delaying you to July, to prevent selling you the 200,001 car at the end of June ... but at 5,000 a week they ought to be able to make one for you soon after that. I'm fairly sure you are not holding out for the cooking-version, and instead want the full-fat, high-profit, ones that Tesla are keen to sell first ... unless you are in one of those states that hates car companies with no dealer network?

Only thing about the Jag that bothers me is the 20K units p.a. worldwide build numbers, and 20K units going to Waymo in the first 3 years. (Dunno reason, but I assume battery availability constraint)

I've never owned a Jag, but I know lots of people who do, and they love Jags. I don't know the reason for that either, but (for those type of Brits) I reckon the choice of options, and feeling like you have a bespoke vehicle, is a significant thing. Looks nice, good coach building, long heritage ...

The i-Pace is not for me because, currently, the UK non-Tesla charger network is dire and I drive out-of-range often enough, but for anyone in UK who doesn't I think its a cracker.

Its bound to be a runaway success IMHO. Except that if it is then the 20K units p.a. is going to then disappoint a lot of people. Jag don't even appear to be doing "Most profitable model first", and I hear lots of people saying "My dealer says I can have one" ... seems like a disconnect there ...

Maybe 20K units is just a guesstimate, and they can ramp up, in which case hats-off to them and their customers

My experience with the Model 3 is much the same as yours. I reserved the night before you did, and have gotten multiple delivery date estimates, and multiple delays. I've concluded Tesla has no idea when they might have a car for me. I certainly hope Jaguar does not follow Tesla's example!

I don't think Tesla was expecting half-a-million reservations ... (that's not to say that they couldn't have handled it better ...)

If Jag get a massive number of reservations, and I don't see why they wouldn't, I think they are going to be in the same boat.

McRat! As a Tesla websites lurker for ages and an early M3 reservation holder I know you well! I will be fascinated to follow your IPace journey when it unfurls.

I am on this site as well as the IPace appeals to me a lot (I have put in a 'reservation' as well as it may get here to Afrika before Tesla....)

As a stop-gap (the dragged out waiting time for a decent EV is driving me nuts) we have just bought a 94Ah BMW i3 Rex which will just about do till the Tesla Model Y shows up - or the IPace becomes available second hand (bit pricey for us)

I feel the tipping point for EVs is being slowed down by the pure lack of choice of realistic EVs on the market - and still few on the horizon. That is why I'm certain that Tesla will be able to cash-in in the near future...….

Some people reserved late, and are driving their cars, others were line-waiters, and now are not at the front of the line any longer.

It appears random, but I think there is some system they use. But they don't want customers to know what their selection procedure is.

If I knew for a FACT, they could meet this most recent deadline (2-4 months more for Perfomance, 3 to 5 for First ...cough... Production) I would probably order. But I'm fairly confident they are lying about their production volumes.

Why? I have 20 million neighbors in the center of one of the most EV-rich areas on earth. I work 2 miles from home, and I see a minimum of 3 EVs in that 2 miles. Sometimes a dozen. Everywhere I go are EVs. I even see the Karma Revero about once a month.

In 10 months I've seen >1000 Tesla Model S's, >100 Bolt EVs, and three Model 3 Teslas on the road. The Model 3 isn't on the roads in the kinds of numbers they claim to have sold in the US. At least not in Southern California.

If the production was a high as Elon claims, I'd have Model 3 already.

Yes, you can't believe a word they say about production and delivery. I will say however, I've been seeing a lot more Model 3 on the road here in Southern Cal the past several months - dozens.

Still looking for my first I-Pace, though - TMC says they were in Irvine again yesterday, so I'll keep an eye peeled today.

That class will be going until at least the 19th of July.

It's probably being held at:

9292 Jeronimo Road
Irvine, CA
