I-Pace HSE Happy owner

Was THIS close to buying a demo model Tesla Model X .... went to the closest dealer (which is about 90 minutes away ) and test drove and selected a car I had actually seen at a mall Tesla store. Salesman made an $8,000 “mistake “ on the paperwork and when he finally admitted the mistake, guess what he said the car was sold.... but of course he could find other, more expensive ones in other states. Then he didn’t reply to me for several days and I just couldn’t take all the price and equipment changes that Tesla did...

Luckily a Jaguar salesperson emailed me, I visited the dealership one rainy Sunday morning peeking in windows and thought hmmm I should test drive one of these good looking cars.... and within the week I had my beautiful white I-Pace with 0% financing, full federal tax credit, 2 cars traded in rather than going through Car Max, at a dealership I could walk to with a salesperson who really knows about this car!

I have driven BMW diesel X5 since 2010 and an I3 Rex. Fell in love with electric cars and wanted to have just one car with a decent range and enough room for my life. Had a. Chargepoint installed in my garage and life is good.

White HSE
Ivory interior
Black 20” wheels

I too came from an X5 diesel as my daily - although mine was a 2016. Do you miss the size and ride height of the X5? I still sort of do...

Welcome to the forum sir and congrats on your new I-Pace. Sounds like everything worked out the way it was intended. How did you find the interior quality of the Model X prior to sitting in this car?

Were you even aware of the I-Pace before the salesperson emailed you? JLR has done a pitiful job of advertising this incredible vehicle.

Glad to see you clearly picked the I-Pace over Model X.
They were never that special to me, only during a time when Tesla products were the only premium EV options we had. Going forward, as more premium EV's come out, Tesla will be up for the biggest test they ever faced.

Welcome to the club! I drove an i3 for three years and decided I could never go back to burning dinosaurs again. Even with it’s limited range, the i3 satisfied 95% of my needs. I guess I am fortunate that I have a pickup and minivan at work I use for long distance driving/family vacations so at no point did I regret going electric. Has anyone tried driving the electric Pacifica yet? I haven’t, but it seems to me that would be a great combination—electric daily errand-getter and gas burning long distance hauler.

Anyway, I digress—you will be very happy with your Shagwah even though TopGear labels all Jag drivers as slimy creepy somewhat evil people with few scruples and a whole host of STDs.

“Had a. Chargepoint installed in my garage and life is good”

Please let me/us know if you can get the ChargePoint home charger to charge using the timed charge function of the charger app (not the car app or dash interface). That is: Setting it up to begin charging at midnight and to stop at 5 AM. This is when my electric company has the best rates.

I have given up on this as the car won’t “accept” the ChargePoint charge. Escalated this to ChargePoint level 2 support and they say things are fine on their end. Had car in shop for battery software update. Still no luck. Various comments in this forum and the UK one point to standards incompatibility issues on the Jaguar side. (Similar problems with the car-side charging scheme timer have led me to avoid it.)

I now charge manually on weekends when prices are also low.

Still love the car but wish JLR would take the $ they are spending on that racing series and instead hire some crackerjack software engineers who could fix these and other problems quickly via the promised but so far underwhelming OTA updates.

My (grown) son recently rode in mine, and used this expression that I found prescient:

"This car is obscenely smooth. It's like it's hovering on ice, not driving down a road."

My son (10) says "Its more like a hovercraft than a car. Sounds like one, too." He fully expects cars to fly by the time he's my age.
