Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy Is Ready To Race

Jaguar’s I-Pace concept has spawned this Formula E racer; a variant built by the brand’s Special Vehicle Operations unit, the I-Pace eTrophy is set to compete in the 2018/19 season. Though not the first race series of its type with the Electric GT series holding that title, Motor Authority says Jaguar is “breaking new ground with one of the world’s first race series for a production-based electric car.”

Debuting at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show today, we’re treated to a minute and a half clip of a rendered I-Pace eTrophy tearing down a track. Featuring a unique livery, eTrophy’s exact specs remain a mystery, but it should be equipped with racing modifications like competition suspension, a roll cage, giant rear fixed wing, and more.

As for what’s hidings under that bonnet, Jaguar may just borrow the concept’s four electric motors to power each wheel. Delivering at least 400 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, Jaguar may even enhance the race fleet’s performance by increasing output or reducing curb weight. Powering those motors is a 90kWh lithium-ion battery, which is good for 220-miles per charge.

Consisting of 10 races in various cities around the world, Jaguar will be making history with 20 identical I-Pace SV race cars.

That's an interesting grille design and I like it! though it's highly unlikely that the production model will look like that, at least give us the nice paint options in that image.

The I-Pace etrophy looks even better in person instead of a rendering. Autoblog saw it at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and the design details are even better looking up close. Even the rear diffuser is trimed in that blue paint.

The video wasn't working, but I did find it myself and noticed that there are air vents located on the front fenders too.

Perhaps to cool the motors, assuming the batteries have a liquid cooling system instead of an air cooled one.

Too bad they didn't do Porsche 911 GT3 RS style front fender vents since that would do the I-Pace some good for racing. Car makers are almost always looking for better cooling and styling, that GT3 RS vent would kill two birds for them easily.

Sports Pro Media caught up with James Barclay, team director of Jaguar Panasonic Racing, for an interview and the man gives us insight as to what the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy is relevant to the average buyer.

Quote:
With the I-Pace eTrophy, the great thing is that we are showcasing the future-facing technology which consumers can buy here and now, and we’re demonstrating how capable it is. The fact that we’re using a production-based car that people can drive on the road just shows how great the performance of that vehicle is.
It shows us the I-Pace's potential if Jaguar ever decides to come out with a performance version, or it could hint at what the next gen is capable of.

If that is true then they better start showing its performance related under pinnings because that will be one way to sell people on it. I-Pace and jagaur overall needs all they can get right now and that will be one key way. AMG already does it and even Infiniti of all car makers did it too.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan is the first team to join the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy racing series! With 20 electric Jaguar race cars in this series, eTrophy should be interesting so long as enough teams commit.
